I would second the Beretta Gold E Thumbs Up its an excellent piece of kit, i used one for both Clay shooting and farm clearance for a number of years in the UK.

I traded in a Browning 425 for the Beretta due to the fact the Browning rusted faster than an alfasaud, even though it was cleaned and oiled after every shoot, the gun cabinet had damp protection etc..

If you are getting a browning, is a Miroku not cheaper ?? Same gun different name Question Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

I'm supposed to be going on the Freel2 clay shoot, but for £45/£50 for 35 clays and an instructor, it more aimed towards non shooters/corporate/stag do's than someone who already shoots, but then the other side is putting faces to names etc,

When i can go to my local shoot at Barwick in Elmet and shoot 50 for £10 (+carts) it feels expensive

Maybe someone could organise a day and we could meet up and use our own guns/carts and do 50/100 clays competition or simulated game flush etc

I was looking last night and the simulated game days sounds good to me, ask about that Wink

also ask regarding non SGC holders joining in? (think the grounds require a section 11? permit for that or you need to have a instructor)

Assuming you have had the gun checked for correct fit, that's probably a mounting issue. You're not getting the gun in the right place. You might want to have some time with an instructor to look at that.

Also, you might want to have a recoil pad fitted on the end of the butt. I have a sorbothane type pad and it makes a huge difference if you're shooting 100-150 cartridges in a couple of hours. Theoretically if your mount is spot on you don't need a recoil pad. But I like the added protection on those occasions when you mismount and get a kick from the butt. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

normally, they use any gun for lessons, then in time they will try a few guns at their disposal to find fit

Unless you're shooting with very heavy loads any pain is from poor gun mount. My son is a very slight 12 year old and he shoots with a 21g load in my 12 no problem. He is having lessons at the West London Shooting School who have deals on at this time of the year.

As far as cleaning is concerned, if it has been wet you must clean it, unless you like brown barrels. I always have a can of spray oil just to protect the barrels at the end of the day as our post shooting meal can last some time Laughing This means I can clean the gun the next day and it not rust Porsche Cayenne S Diesel 66 Plate

You don't need a cartridge bag. I bought one when I started but never use it now. Look instead for a shooting/skeet vest - these have large pockets in to which you can tip a box of bangs. Now is a good time because lots of the shooting suppliers are having end of season sales. I bought a Musto vest for £50 this way last year.

Cleaning kit - you don't need anything too silly. A boresnake is useful as an addition to the cleaning kit.

Gun Slip - again you don't need to spend a lot of money. I have a padded slip which seldom gets used. I usually use my Napier Roller Slip. This can be rolled up and clipped to your belt or put in a pocket. I find it easier than carrying a bulky slip around. It doesn't give the same level of protection though as it has very nominal padding.

Cartridges. Take some time finding one you like. It's funny but you can notice differences between brands in terms of recoil, barrel fouling etc. Not much difference, admittedly, but some. Prices vary between suppliers too. They're cheaper in bulk - worth shopping around and look at the "per 1000" price - you'll go through them quickly enough if you go clay shooting on a regular basis. You can get 1000 bangs for £150-175 depending on brand etc.

To start with, all you really need is the gun, gun safe, a slip (and that's debatable as some people make do without) and a cleaning kit. You should be able to buy cartridges at the shooting ground although that might be an expensive option. But they may have a selection of brands so you can try e.g. 100 of each to see which you prefer.

Oh yes, and ear protection is a must!! You can start with the little foam plugs that you roll up and pop in your ears. If you're happy with these then you can get them quite cheaply in bulk from people like Screwfix. I've seen them sold for £1 a pair at a shooting ground but from a bulk supplier they can be 200 pairs for £20 or less. I use electronic ear defenders because I dislike ear plugs and also like to be able to hear what's going on. Especially useful when game shooting although that is one place that you'll still see people shooting without ear protection. They also keep your ears warm on cold windy days Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
