hi after some advice looking to upgrade to a rangerover sport about 05-07 plate, down which line would be beter tdv6 or tdv8 ?? any probs with either ?

Oooh, you really shouldn't ask that question! Do a search to see the sort of stuff that usually gets spouted in response...

TDV8 for performance, noise and spec.
TDV6 for economy and possibly less issues.

Your choice...

All RRS have suspension knock issues. There are sticky threads dealing with this. The TDV8 can be prone to alternator failures. The TDV6 can have EGR issues. Both can be remapped for improved performance. TDV8 is limited to 20 nch wheels or a limited number of 19 inch wheels owing to bigger front brakes. Lots of "do these fit" threads hereabouts.

If you look at an RRS on Continental tyres you might see inner shoulder wear issues. This is normal and caused by the tyre design. Tyre life isn't affected.

The real problem with RRS (of all versions) is that people do insist on carrying out modifications that make them look like gangsta rap felons or Premier League footballers. Usually involves black paintwork, black interior, privacy glass and 22inch wheels of some kind (often black). We all suffer opprobrium because of it...

The RRS is a luxury off roader. With off roading being a major ability. If you want a 4x4-style car with decent road manners and an inability to get up a damp hill, buy an X5...  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

had a discovery 3 tdv6 auto just wondered if the sports suffer from the same prob. hense is the v8 more reliable and better on fuel ?

1. TDV8 has different reliability issue to the TDV6. Notably the alternator.

2. TDV8 uses more fuel than TDV6.

3. TDV8 is heavier than TDV6.

4. TDV8 has much better perfomance but see points 2 and 3 above... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Hi, i have a V6 and mine usually does around 28 in town and 35 ish on a run.

Shelling out on fuel is one aspect to quite rightly consider but you must also consider other running costs.
You'll be advised to get a warrany, anywhere from £400-900 a year, road tax upto £460 a year depending on what year car you buy. Servicing isn't too bad using a specialist. Tyres thick end of a £1000 for a set.

thats a typo mate surely you mean 22", as ive got 22" as have a lot of people  07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater )))

My TDV8 gives about 22-23mpg doing usual mixed-use driving. This drops to about 20mpg for short journeys in cold weather because the Fuel Burning Heater kicks in. On a long run in well moving A-road traffic I've had 28/29mpg. A fast motorway run will see 25mpg.

I'm quite heavy with my right foot though and prefer to make progress . It is noticeable when I just kick back and waft along how the fuel use improves markedly. Usual driving will see about 400 from a tankful; gentle wafting will see 500. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

must be something wrong with my motor then, as i never get more than 22mpg, a 50 mile round trip to work with 17 miles being motoway results in around 20/21 mpg, and i empty a full tank, £100, in around 300 miles.

My 2011 TDV6 does 34/35 on a run and around 31/32mpg now around my "town" runs Mike
