I have a decent laptop and an iPad

I use the iPad more now

1. it is easier to take on holiday - fits in swmbo handbag,
2. it is solid state so I won't damage the hard drive if I am moving it around as I use it,
3. I can use 3G if I am away from home,
4. it is crystal clear on iplayer if I want to watch a programme i missed,
5. it is on instantly without waiting for warm up,
6, the battery lasts forever,

A common - mainstream mistake is that a pad (i or any other type) is a replacement for (well actually a PC...another debate PC v Laptop (possibly) v Netbook)

I have a a good (2yr old) spec PC, which will never be replaced by any device like this. a work laptop as i have 3 offices so need portability.

My personal network has servers to make all data available and then the ipad interacts with that.

The ipad isnt a replacement for a PC, it does different things and provides access and capability Mike

I personally can't see any benefits of using an iPad instead of a pc/laptop. You get much more functionality on a pc, I struggle to find anything that an iPad can do that a pc can't but there's loads if you look the other way around.
In fact apart from the screen size I can't think of anything that the iPad can do that my smart phone can't.
I guess I would need to see and use one for a period of time to comment further.

I think i was in part actually stating that.

There are lots of things it can do and bring to the party and actually become a multi-function device that ensure accessibility to the things i need without carrying everything.
1) The primary use for mine is flying, many flying tools on there, then keeping things like my IFR plates etc - very useful, has simplified many cockpit activities especially as you can integrate/check at home/briefing office and then deploy them etc
2) Then meeting notes taken on it/meeting papers etc - available on it, link back to the corporate network or my home network so i have what i need without printing or thinking
3) Ultra quick on and display (laptop cant do it and a PC is at home) so when your mobile you have what you need when you need it
4) Battery for these sort of activities is key, at 10 hours of hardcore use a laptop struggles at 2/3
5) Then theres the boring, email/internet - useful on a big screen over a phone, but also having its size just right to use the variety of tools
6) Very easy to have films/books/music ready in the same package for down time or a rest - even games
7) I have a couple of magazine subscriptions, first of all they are cheaper, second i have them with me when i have the device, third you get them quicker, fourth you can zoom etc
Its easier to carry and have with you than a laptop - so when you need it its there/on ready
9) You can then bring devices together - i have a Car GPS app - brilliant tool, means its always with me in the other cars/work vehicles - large screen is great, also I dont need to carry much else and im more likely to have it.

For me 50% of the things i use it for you couldnt do on another device or a single device and of that a fair amount arent available on Andriod or Microsoft

But other users have other uses for it - still it doesnt replace my PC which im on now for an example Mike

Well, Have you seen the headlines "People queing for days for the iPad 3 release" ?

Umm...... Well not in Aberdeen they weren't....... I happened to be in the area of the Apple Store this morning and was not aware that it was today that it was all supposed to be kicking off! Outside the store they had 2 sets of the zig-zag queing tape along with 6 guys in security uniform but, not a single punter in the queue, not one!! When I looked into the store itself I thought maybe I'd just arrived late as the store was really busy........ but something didn't look quite right...... and then it hit me, everyone (except maybe 3 or 4) was wearing exactly the same clothes...... Yep.... you've guessed it.... All Staff!! I think people are beginning to suss Apple.

Since the launch of the IPhone4S (Iphone 4 Suckers, instead of the anticipated IPhone5) which introduces marginal functionality people are beginning to release that Apple is trying to generate the "must have" feel for little gain.

As you say the Ipad3 has a higher definition screen and a few minor tweeks. At at tablet size the original screen was already adequate.

I own a tablet running proper Android Ice Cream Sandwich (the first proper tablet Android release in reality) and also having used some Windows 8 ones then Apple are going to have to up their game.

having the ipad 3 and hating apple...ill say this

The ipad 3 (of course it isnt called that) the screen makes the 1 and 2 look bad...i didnt think it would but it does and its much faster...everything else is neither here nor there, they should have updated the memory options, that to me seems mad.

4G will be good if they (as the reckon in the news) will accelerate 4g to be implemented this year

Having temporarily had a work android tablet and having an android and blackberry phone and loving them as i have for years, they make the iphone look rubbish - but the android tablet just isnt as good. I wanted to like the sony one and thats not that good either. Mike

The screen on the iPad 3 is something else...

Photos looke more like life than life...

It's even better than on my 30" Mac Cinema display.

And you don't have to type you just speak at it and it types, like I am doing now.
