As this request is being completely and utterly ignored, and leading to untidy threads, the functionality of the "quote" button has currently been reduced to that of "reply".

Think about it - if you're down the pub you don't repeat everything your mate just said when you have something to add? But when you have to recall something said a while ago, you might have to say "you know you said .... "..

We usually only quote something in the reply to someone elses comment so that the people reading it knows which comment you are replying to, otherwise some comments won't make sense if several other people have posted inbetween, its not as though there is only two people are talking to each other as if it was an email

That would be OK if the exact comment being replied to was used - but it's not, the whole post is quoted (sometimes many paragraphs) for a one word, one line or one smiley answer!

I understand what you are saying regarding several quotes in a single word reply, i usually edit the quotes that don't apply to my response, but then again we arn't in a pub are we Most of us didn't even realise including me that this was causing a problem, thank you for bringing it to my attention

And, I do appreciate that some are using it correctly, but the quote button is being generally abused as a reply button. The forum is conversational and doesn't need a recap in each post  Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!
