EPB Advice

Hi,

I have what I understand to be a common problem with the EPB screaming... not funny at 11:30pm when you're just leaving your mates and the EPB is jammed on.

Anyway I know I need to get it apart and look at it but last night it was just a case of bodging it to get going. Following a brake bible I found somewhere, I took the wheel of and unwound the ratchety thing through the hole in the brake disk with a screwdriver (I hope that makes sense). It wound the shoes off enough for me to get moving but they were still binding a little judging by the smell from rear left when I got home.

I just dont have time to see to it for the next few days and it's obviously loosened up now as not smelling but the EPB actuator is screaming every time I get in and start moving the car. That part is hugely expensive so to save knackering it, I looked in the manual for the EPB fuse which seems to be #41, pulled that but the actuator is still being activated!?

I also found on here the emergency EPB release which I didnt know existed... would have been helpful if I'd have come across that last night.

Anyway, if I pull the emergency release now, and then not use the EPB will it stop the actuator firing up every time I start the car of is there another fuse I can pull?

Regards,

Tez

Yep, that's pretty much what I will do once I get it sorted. Ridiculous though when a service manager is telling you its best not to use the parking brake don't you think.

What was wrong with a good old fasioned handbrake anyway... oh wait, they couldn't charge £400 for a handbrake but an EPB actuator on the other hand... Rolling Eyes

I've had some responses on the disco3 forum, sounds like I need to do the emergency release thing and that will sort it out for now. Since I've wound off the shoes I've put it all out of adjustment so will need to get in there this weekend and sort it properly.

Somewhat relieved now, I really thought I was going to end up knackering the actuator.
