Swing out wheel carrier

Not sure if this will appeal to the UK lads but I came across this Ozzie company today who supply a swing out wheel carrier for the RRS.

Sometimes people are looking to utterlise that space underneath for LPG tanks or just to get the spare out of harms way.
Some sort of anti-theft wheel nuts might be needed for obvious reasons. Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.

Personally, I'd rather run the risk of not having a spare if it meant my RRS looked like this. Whistle Laughing

Also, is it me or is that spare massive compared to the actual wheels Confused ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Australia

I guess it depends where you live - these come from Australia for a reason - the long distances and distances between fuel. A diesel RRS or D3/4 loaded up and maybe towing an offroad trailer will only have a safe range of about 500km which is not enough for some areas.

Most people would not just buy the spare wheel carrier - first they would be buying a long range fuel tank of about 115 litres that fits in where spare wheel goes. That means where do you put the spare - either on the roof rack or an a spare wheel carrier. And in addition, you will need to be carrying a second spare on the on the roof rack.

Most of those carriers come off simply when not in use.

Some of you people in smaller heavily populated countries where the best you can manage is a bit of greenlaning Very Happy need to realise the RRS is more than just pose and taking the kiddies to school but is a full on off-road vehicle and some do actually get used offroad.

Nicely put Thumbs Up

Reason I was on that site in the first place is to buy a swing out twin wheel carrier for my Discovery. My mate already has one and it seems a much cheaper option than the Kaymar version.

Another reason to get the wheel out from underneath is to improve the departure angle or get the tire away from potencially damaging rocks etc.
I'd be interested to hear what percentage of RRS owners (apart from parking on the pavement)... actually take their cars off road.....? Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.

That's a bit single minded, I think you need to realise some people buy the car on other aspects rather than the fact it can be used off-road

I fully understand that people will use the cars differently. Thumbs Up
As Ballsy says, people buy cars for a number for reasons, the RRS's 'off road' capability was a fair way down the list for me, on the list none the less, but a fair way down. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
