I was thinking about getting the blue fin superchip for my tdv8 for £365.00 and adding another 50bhp. Anyone done this already, and will it still pass the mot emissions test?

Well the visit it didn’t go as planned or as well as I hoped for!

Here’s how it went.

But before you read this can I make it clear that I am NOT knocking this dealership in any way! There are some fantastic main dealers out there LPR, Chelmsford both of which I have dealt with and found to be great! This one I’m sure has many happy customers to its credit.

This is my experience one which I would like to share with you all and think that we should all do the same.

I had been in contact with this LR dealer by phone Tuesday last regarding a 2009 S/C and they offered me 15k for my 2005 S/C in part-ex against their 5ltr. I told them that it wasn’t enough and I was unable to do the deal, thanked the guy for his time and wished him luck in selling their car.

I received an email yesterday saying that they were able to offer me another 2.5k for my RRS taking their offer up to 17.5k to do the deal. I decided to visit them today (Saturday) it was completely unannounced and they had no idea that I was coming. When I arrived at the showroom the 5ltr had been reduced from £41995 to £39995 which then made the deal to me affordable with a £22495 difference to pay!

I had a good look around the car and was approached by a sales guy I introduced myself and confirmed that we had spoken by telephone earlier in the week and thanked him for his email regarding the increased offer for my car and confirming that I was now very interested in purchasing the 5ltr S/C He immediately retracted his offer of 17.5k for my RRS and told me he could only offer me 15k saying that he had now reduced the 5ltr by 2k which was the same difference! My maths isn’t the best but I’m sure there’s £500 gone astray to his favour there!! Anyway I explained that I was very put out that he had gone back on his original offer of 17.5k and urged him to reconsider as I was keen to do the deal there and then! I wasn’t about to pay £41995 when it had been reduced to £39995 and shouldn’t be expected to in my opinion! After some more looking around my car by the salesman he returned back to the showroom where he offered me 16k for my car, didn’t want my 2010 S/C wheels but wanted the original wheels (fair enough I wasn’t going to give them to him anyway!) But wanted my new (500mile) £850 Vredstein tyres taken off my S/C wheels and put on the original wheels to give to him!! The tyres on his 5ltr were Conti’s either racing slicks or the original tyres having done 19k I could see my own reflection in all 4 tyres around the edges! I was then told that they had brought the 5ltr cash (I had already been told about 30min earlier that it had come in Part-ex against a new car) I was then shown the original sales invoice which had ‘PART-EX’ stated next to the £41995 price which they had given the previous owner against their new purchase and it also stated that they had taken that car in, in September 2011 I’m sure that they could do with a buyer for it.

Full credit to them they have to try and get the best price for their stock in these very difficult times that we are all facing! And I’m sure that all the sales guys are under tremendous pressure to sell. But what I can not understand is why they would offer a price for my car then retract it? Then want me to pay £41995 when the car had £39995 on the screen and then only do the deal if I gave them the new tyres off my wheels – all seems a bit unprofessional to me.

Having said all that I was meet by a very lovely young lady on reception with a wonderful smile. I was offered tea, coffee and hot chocolate. They have a good stock of nice cars including a new 2012 SDV6 RRS I was shown the new Evoque and was able to look and sit in any car I choose too at length completely uninterrupted and felt very welcome by everybody. Cheers Laurence.

Sounds like a decent dealership but with perhaps overly pushy sales staff. Hope its still there in a month or 2 so you can walk back in to re-negotiate. Wink RRS TDV8 (loving it)

I'd speak to the sales manager if you're still minded to give them your business and see if he or she can resolve the problem for you.

Failing that you could also maybe call the sister dealership where my motor came from (which as I said before is literally just up the road) and see if they could maybe do the deal for you.

I have the sales managers name there if you need it Thumbs Up Wink Have i got the busted controller?!?!!?

Have a degree of sympathy for the dealer if the additional money they offered for your car was actually done after they reduced the sticker price on the 5.0. It may have been the salespersons clumsy attempt to close the deal with you thinking you wanted more for your car but were happy with the original price on the 5.0.

When part ex'ing it's all about the price to change and so games can be played on list price new and loads of money for yours or vice versa. Just don't get tied up with both individually.

Time is on your side - the deal with be better still next month...unless you are racking up large mileage on yours.

Thats what I'm hoping for Thumbs Up

I do less than 10k a year my 4.2S/C spends a lot of it's time in my garage and being polished! It hardly ever comes out in the bad weather! Thats why I can afford to run a 5ltr!

Was thinking of getting a cash price from him with no part-ex then sell mine privately - it's an option depending on how much he wants to sell the 5Ltr and the cash deal he wants to do on it?

Good advice many thanks Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Cheers Laurence.
