Help - Advice Wanted - New RRS and I want my D4 back!

I got my new RRS HSE Lux about a month ago.
Previously I've had FFRR HSE - FFRR Vogue - D3 HSE - FFRR V8 Vogue SE - D4 HSE in that order.
I went to the RRS for handling, electric tailgate, and the ability to get in more car parks.
It does those three things really well, but overall I'm really disappointed.
Here comes the problems, comments and queries - any advice or info will be much appreciated.

1.
I'm having real problems with acceleration from stationary, when the engine is cold.
Press the pedal, and it creeps forward, press it some more and it creeps some more, press it further, and it takes off like a banshee. Dealer says there's nothing wrong, but two friends that are engineers agree with me, and reckon its a combination of dead pedal plus poor engine mapping with the new 8-speed box.
I'm going back next week to fight the dealer. Only happens in the first 5-10 minutes when cold in the morning.

2.
No Courtesy Light in rear Seats.
Cant believe it, but in a dark car park, there no light on the back seats or footwells except for a centre shaft of light between the front seats from the central courtesy lights right up at the rear view mirror.
There are two manual map lights, on or off only.
Dealer says that all RRS are like that. Don't believe it.
I've spec'd the Dual view screen, and think that the black plastic dome in the centre of the car used to be a courtesy light until they replaced it with the wireless headphone stuff.

3.
New HHD Audio & Navigation.
Dont like the new maps, but most of all, screen is smaller. Every other manufacturer is increasing screen size, but this one is smaller than the last generation in my D4 and FFRR. Or am I wrong? There appears to be a small tacky bit of trim to reduce the opening for the screen. Is this a problem with the new Dual-View screen. If so, some one should have told me about it before I ordered.

4. Tailgate Reversing Camera.
I like the new electric tailgate, but why the hell did they not lower the camera to the waist level, as in the D4? In the Discovery, I could see bumper and tow bar, and reverse to within a centimetre or so of tow bars or walls. The RRS doesn't show anything closer than 4-500mm from the car.

I'm going to stop here, and only briefly mention the two major motorway stretches added to GLasgow in the autumn of 2011 (M80 & M74) both of which are missing from my sat nav, and make my daily work around Glasgow very difficult.
Or the rear wiper that a number of young people with sensitive hearing claim that it makes a horrible noise.
Or the rear carpets that have a hole for a fixing stud, but the dealer says there are no fixing studs for it.

I have really enjoyed my past 10+ years with Land Rovers and Range Rovers. Ten years of pretty good reliability, and minimal complaints - but this one is trying my patience. It's quick with great handling, good quality and comfort, but otherwise it's failing to impress.

Again, comments and information to help will be well appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron 12MY RRS HSE Lux - Marmaris Teal

No Nick, I didn't look at it. The 12MY wasn't in the dealers at the time I ordered, and the 12MY brochure didn't appear at the dealers until the week after I got the car - same time the details appeared on the website.

i think you've bought the wrong car mate Laughing

RE the NAV...... M74 extension had been under construction for the last 10 years i suspect the map makers didn't believe it would ever be finished but new road will always be behind the NAV DISK, ull have a 2011 disk i expect which will have been compiled in 2010 when the extension was but a pipe dream. Suggest you chase the dealer for a 2012 disk when its released.

Ive got a 2010 MY and i too have had RRS & RR for a number of years now and i love it

yep lighting in the rear is rubbish but i don't sit in the back
the camera is where the camera is but i agree its pretty crap
You acceleration issue does sound odd, i did notice a difference with my Diesel but I've had super charged petrols for 5 years so it was always going to be different to what I'm used to.

Hope u can get somewhere but i most of your issues are with the cars design rather than faults

I couldn't make my mind up just before christmas, disco. 4 or rrs having had every disco so far I opted for the rrs and i love it, yes there are some issues but I didn't build it, there were some issues that were missing on the disco 3 but are now on the 4, they will eventually be sorted, I have heard that the 8 speed box pulls off in 2nd gear try using the paddle and select 1st. I love my 2102 RRS

BUT

It's unrealistic to ask if you looked or tried a car before you bought it... even more so when it's a model ordered pre release...
RR were sketchy with their press release and they are hardly likely to detail all the cars faults and short comings!!
They sill hadn't released pics of the new tailgate and that was after the car was in production!!

1. I've had the same problem with no acceleration from cold..... was inches from a head on with a concrete truck on an icy mountain road last week as a result....
I now wait 3 mins and test before I pull off.....

2. Rear courtesy light..... what a joke.... on the RRS They must be the only manufacturer that doesn't have one if there is no roof mounted one on a four door... I don't expect my passengers to fumble around in the dark looking for the switch on the rears..
Hardly courteous !!

4... reversing camera... basically ... great novelty for a broad view... but not fit for purpose..
I know the dimensions of my car well enough.... but the cam should be for the last inch or micro parking...

Going to write to LR about the cold start and put it on record...

Still love the car tough

A car from the future Shocked

Seriously though the RRS is a let down and is more about design than practicality IMHO - I am unlikely to buy another Crying or Very sad

Ron. dead simple to get your rear courtesy lights working with your front ones. It's a very minor circuit change that my local guy did. All the other stuff is probably very accurate!

Take some comfort that my wife has the parallel park module on her new evoque - first time she used it (I was in the car so she did NOTHING wrong) the car steered it's front end in to the back of a jag..... Now that's a fault!! Wife will never use it again as she can't trust it.

Enjoy the car for whaat it is. You will grow to love it - unlike my wife!! Jaguar XKR Convertible
