you are allready winning..! i bought my 1st rrs in oct and after couple of weeks my car started playing up,so called aa out and they confirmed it was egr valve.! took it to landrover nottingham and they confirmed one side not working and one side part working.had new one fitted at cost of £400,but within 2 weeks car played up again and had other one done at same price.lucky for me aa breakdown warranty paid for mine but i asked on here same question when mine played up and most people seem to blank.the aa man on the 2nd egr temp blanked mine till car was fixed and it ran as good as then as now.!! on here they say on after 2007 model it leaves a message on dash but not on pre 2007. but prce you been quoted seems very good price.! i had mine done as i plan to keep car for 2-3 years so wanted it 100% and lucky for me when joining aa they talked me into this breakdown warrantry cover which pays out up to £500 five times a year with £35 excess each claim,so you have 3 choices my friend, pay the very good price, blank or join aa.!!

Thanks Mark i,m not winning !! just asking the question as you never no weather some one is trying to rip you off. as i had never heard of a egr valve & then to be told they have 2. i was told that not all can be capped off so be prepared to pay £360, this seemed to me i was going to have to pay the 360 and they don't even look to cap off the valves. the info you gave is great, it's good to understand what you are being told / sold

i to never neard of egr valves to,untill i got my rrs.! they are a common problem on all late diesel cars, not just range rovers. what car manufactors do now is to let some of the exaust gasses back into the engine via the egr's which stands for exaust gas recirculation.one it helps warm the car up faster and the main reason is it helps to keep the emmisions low so cheaper tax.! but for me and you £460 tax is not cheap but loving my first 4x4 and fun = money these days |

EGR valve capping very common in older cars. I had mine done four months ago. No problem at all.. 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE in Artic Frost. 20" 2010 HST Alloys, sidesteps, Hawke tips, plus minor bits and bobs along with a remap. Four spike spiders ready for the Alps again now tucked up in their garage boxes... |

Depending what you want to do I think you will have both options as your car is probably old enough to be able to be blanked (as an emergency measure a simple 2p sized blanking plate can be used, i.e. a 2 pence piece - as advised by a friendly land rover assist mechanic) or there are kits available. I have a friend with a disco3 who blanked of for the princely sum of 4p 2 years ago and he says that there have been no issues
