My last car had an OE air compressor and some gunk to fix a flat tyre, and it was handy just to use the compressor when the tyres needed inflating, saved having to pay at a petrol station and Q up for air...demeaning!

Now it's gone I don't have one and was thinking today of buying one, has anyone got one they'd recommend (in the UK only, sorry US people!)

I don't want to shell out for one of those red tank air compressors starting at £70 just for blowing up tyres, so any alternatives greatly welcome.

RRS ownership for 1 yr, then D3 for 2 yrs. Then cut back to old bangers and working my way back up through two Peugeots in 6 months. Now got Saab 9-5 2.3t and enjoying the performance!

I bought a Halfords one for something like £12 about 6 years ago, it has different fittings for inflating footballs and bike tyres as well as doing car tyres, has a built in pressure gauge but you cannot set a pressure for it to cut out at.
It has a long lead and an on/off switch. Drawbacks....... few, but it it doesn't half vibrate when it is running, enough for it to move across the drive until it reaches the end of the airline or the end of the power cable! It proved it's worth when I got a flat on my Defender (kids playing I suspect as once pumped up it stayed inflated!) and pumping up a 265x16R75 with a footpump would have taken a couple of hours and knackered me in the process. It isn't the fastest pump on earth, but then it is better than using a footpump......
