Battery Charging

Didn't use the car there for about 5 days as I was away working - tried to start the car on Friday when I came back but the battery was flat. I jump started it from another car and it's all working again and has started first time every time since then.

I now want to try fully charging the battery so that I can monitor if it's draining away when not being used. Anyway, is it recommended to take the battery completely out to charge it or to just disconnect the leads? Also is there any problems that may arise with the car if I drop the power completely by disconnecting the battery?

Appreciate that you may already have a battery charger but if you do not then you could do no worse than try a CTEK model. Not only will you benefit from not having to disconnect the battery but the type of charging it does will ensure your battery is recovered to the best possible state.

Having said that, I've never used one on my RRS but have another car that is plugged into one permanently when in the garage.

If you leave the car regularly you can also get a lead that is designed to be left permanently attached to the battery via the clamps so that when charging is required it's a plug and play operation to save time and hassle.

Having used several different types over the years, I have to say that this one is a quantum leap ahead of others I have had. I think it must have extended the life of my current battery by enough to have actually paid for itself Cool

If you have twin towing electrics then wire your Ctek to a towing plug and plug it into the caravan live feed to charge battery Wink

Can submit more info if req.

I also have a CTEK charger and it is a great piece of kit. Most of the time it keeps my Porsche alive when stored in the winter months but the other month, the battery on my W124 E220 estate died. I jump started it fine but after a long drive, I switched it off and it would not come back on.

Stuck it on the CTEK for about 36 hours and the battery was like new again Shocked

Definitely recommend it Proud owner of a 2008 TDV8 HSE.....and an Audi A3 2.0T DSG Cab and a Porsche 911 Turbo (Mercedes W208 320 CLK and Mercedes W124 E220 Estate now gone)
