France 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black
Sarting the engine is not quick as before

Hello,

When I start the engine (TDV8 2007), sometimes it starts instantly, sometimes (1 start on 3) it takes 2 to 3 seconds of starter. That's new, before it was starting all the time instantly.

Nothing going wrong except that. Still full power, no strange noise, battery is new, motor doing a very nice noise.

It seems that no fuel is coming during 2-3 seconds sometimes when I try to start it.

Any idea of what is going on?

Thanks Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Premium

Is this first thing in the morning each time? Mine usually takes a moment or two longer first thing in the morning than it does if it's been used during the day. I guess there's a temperature issue involved.

Also, if you just get in and turn the key without letting the glowplugs warm up then it will take longer to start too. At least, that's my understanding of diesels.

Having said that, I had a Golf PD150 GT Tdi that would heat the plugs when you unlocked the car so that by the time you turned the key it just fired like a petrol. Nice feature that which only struggled in the coldest of weather - then the plug light would stay lit for a few moments and I'd have to wait a moment before turning the key to start. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

You're not waiting for the glow plug light to go out Thumbs Up

No need to wait in the summer, but these cold mornings will require some extra cranking if you do not wait an extra second or 2 Thumbs Up RRS gone

I wait for the glow plug to heat each time and more now that it is doing this to me! I leave in south France and the car is inside my house at 15 celcius degrees. That's not the issue. Last winter, by zero degrees it was starting instantly.

Yes, it's requesting a service since 10 days. What is the link?! I did a service last year, same date, but I drive less than 10 000 km so I was thinking to wait couple months more.

Any ideas? Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Premium

Yours isnt the push button start is it?

Mine is and it take the extra second or to to do the glow plug warm cycle when cold - it doesnt do it above a certain temperature (or doesnt wait) so the start is instant Mike

News to me but glow plugs can remain on after the engine has started also:

"The glow plug system has a glow plug installed in the inlet side of each cylinder. The glow plugs heat the combustion
chambers before and during cranking, to aid cold starting, and after the engine starts to reduce emissions and engine noise when idling with a cold engine."
