Hi all just wondering what spec the heated windscreen washer jets where fitted too or was it an optional extra, my 06 rrs hse has heated everything but the washer jets where frozen this morning taking the wife to work, so i either don't have them or they don't work |

You will have the heated water jets, but to be honest they are not any good at keeping the nozzles clear of icing when driving in low temperatures if you have a diluted screenwash mix. At this time of year it's best to put screenwash straight from the bottle without adding additional water. If you read the instructions on the screenwash you'll find most recommend this anyway. By doing this i've never had it freeze either at the nozzles or in the cars bottle & pipes. It might seem expensive but it's a lot cheaper than having burst pipes/water bottle in the car. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

First good frost this morning and first chance to see if mine were repaired correctly last March. Temp was -5C and my mix is for -10C.

If any of you are travelling through germany / belgium / france, the bigger fuel stations sell much better screen wash, normally use the stuff from Aral fuel stations in germany, goes down to -50 ( not that I've tested it ) but last couple of years when we've had -5/7 temps and big hard frosts in the early morning they have worked perfectly, cleared the ice and once over the screen and wipers all everything OK, when the usual UK stuff has frozen in the pipes, as been said mix is crucial too RRS S/C, Factory Fitted Full HST kit, 22" Overfinch SS, Carbon Vents & Grill .. - FOR SALE - PM me for details

I Know about the quantities of mixing screen wash for winter, I have it mixed well now but i thought that the heated washer jets would have been more successful |

I had the washer nozzles freeze up last year in below zero temps on the motorway, and it sometimes also happened after overnight low temps. Disapointing tbh, and the screen wash in the bottle was 100% concentrate and good for -10 allegedly.

I suspect there is a more scientific reason for the heated jets to freeze up, in the reservoir bottle, the liquid is a fair volume and won't freeze, but after you use the washer jets there are tiny droplets left around the nozzle , and as it exposed, any ethanol in the mix will probably evaporate leaving a weakened solution which will then freeze.

Seems like a reasonable idea Dave... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I think a -10C mix is a little marginal for this time of year. You need a bigger margin of safety to ensure 100% use. OK we are having a mild winter so far compared to last year. Have you tried buying the neat fluid rather than the pre-mixed? That way you can get to -20C or more and then take a view whether to top your bottle with neat water (based on countryfile week ahead forecast!) or more neat. |

Looks interesting but a couple of points: 1. 50 amp current draw is not insignificant 2. It does appear to be permanently live so what is residual current draw. Our cars seem to be prone to low battery warnings and subsequent system failures. 3. Wonder how long the unit would last when fitted adjacent to the exhaust manifold as they appear to have done on their installation video? 4. Where would it fit under the bonnet of our car? 5 Price - £179.99 inc. VAT seems too steep to me |
