I've not run much lower than 25 in the RRS, but when we had a petrol Freelander I've run it so low that the needle had passed the empty marker on the fuel guage with clear air between them
It was her company car at the time and she got free fuel, so I wasn't going to pay for fuel until I picked her up at M'cr airport. I figured it was downhill on the M62 from snake pass

The fuel guages are reasonably inaccurate, but is more of an issue if you run out in a diesel compared to a petrol.

I have a TDV8 and i went 8 miles after Zero on the fuel guage... Thankfully found an open garage

Hang on, i'll ask the Wife. She makes a habbit of bringing ours home with zero milage left on the computer. Its normaly on a fri when she knows i ditch my van and will use the rrs, and i would say its around 15 miles to the nearest station, the one that swmbo drove right past on the way home oblivious to that little light flashing away on the dash.

I once drove for about 1-2 miles.
However!!! An interesting fact: I went to FastLane today and we actually talked about the range you can cover once you hit 0 miles.
What they told me at the garage, was that apparently, your RRS leaves 1 gallon in reserve. So even if you hit 0, you still have 1 gallon left.
On the other hand, 0 does not mean 0. It is an average estimate of how many miles you can still cover. All depends on how aggressively you drive.

What is important to consider, is to never leave a small volume of petrol, otherwise all the rubbish-like bits accumulate over time and stay on the surface. Once the petrol is about to run out all the dusty particles etc go straight into pipeline and may reach engine and that is not recommended. I am not saying your engine will explode, it is simply not recommended. Vadim A.

Agree with Vadim, I've heard that you end up drawing the s t into the engine.
Not that that stops Mrs Bean from returning the car once in a while running on fumes. Fortunatly I've not had the issue in the RRS, but in previous cars, I've had to drive 10 mils on 'zero' in order to fill up  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
