Overtaken by The Police

Theoretically if someone was doing 90mph on the M25 and was overtaken by a police car would it be right to assume that that that person had a lucky escape or would the police car have recorded the speed and the speeding car would expect a ticket in the post? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Scotland 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography Orkney Grey

Had the same thing on the M6 a few years back. Hitting 95 when a police Jag overtook me and pulled in sharpish to go up the slip road to one of those services with a nick.

No blue light etc and no action taken. A pal in the force said if they were doing that speed without blue light etc they'd not want attention drawn to them either!!! Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!

Well my friend told me the police car then slowed down to avoid the overhead speed camera capturing his speed. My friend obviously slowed down too! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Yes because remember, police officers are not above the law they are there to enforce it.

Unless they are on blues, responding to an appropriate call, on training and approved - then they to would have been breaking the law. Mike

Your 'friend' Whistle will be fine mate, the only way the traffic car would have been able to confirm his speed would be by VASCAR. He would need to be following at a constant speed to allow him to select two datum points to highlight a distance for the test to be completed over.

Its more likely the car was on the way to a job or doing a 'fast-slow' run, this allows them to zoom to another point to monitor traffic again, more likely the former.
Well thats what I used to do back in my Volvo days!

I was past by a Mitsubishi Evo cop car when I was doing about a ton, just saw headlights coming up fast and went past me like I was stood still, slowed slightly and went from lane 3 to an exit and in doing so hit his blues and twos and sped of round the corner on the slip road

Obviously on a call to something so I felt safe enough

Someone should tell them that!

It really annoys me when I see police cars breaking the rules.....and I see it regularly! Most commonly speeding (without the blues on) and also very regularly not indicating when changing lanes (one of my pet hates)....

Also killing innocent people walking past protests and dogs in cars Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
