I have heard of this before. I think it was actually featured recently on BBC Watchdog. Problem is it states on the V5 that the vehicle remains your responsibility until you inform DVLA. Of course you probably did send the paperwork but they will insist that they didn't get it. You will then have to prove you sent it. I know it's closing the gate after the horse has bolted but, All government depts are so prone to losing stuff I always send important stuff like this Royal Mail Signed For. That way you can prove it was recieved at their office. Perhaps if you have any proof, Receipts etc from the dealer you PX'd the car to, that would be enough to convince DVLA?

I will send their form back recorded delivery and I have the proof of sale if it goes further. The stealer sent the paperwork but it annoys me that the first letter I receive is a fine! 2017 Range Rover Sport Autobiography |

You're assuming it's the DVLA at fault. Who says the salesman sent the necessary to them? The salesman? Would I take a saleman's word over that of the DVLA? Not sure I would, no. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
