I've just bought a new trailer to tow behind my RRS 2012 Autobiography and ordered a Tracking Target Sticker from my dealer.

You fix the sticker to the trailer in a position shown when using the rear camera. It seems to me that the touch screen towing assist system must then recognise the sticker along with other data that you enter into the system about trailer length, width etc to decide where it will display guidance lines on the screen to help you reverse the trailer more accurately.

I've not seen it in action, but I think it tracks trailer movement by using the external camera's then alerts the driver if the trailer is moving eratically or snaking. Looks quite a cool feature, but from the look of the link a bit of a ball ache to set up the first time. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
