Side Steps - Alum or SS - Advice please?

Hi Guys,

I want to fit side steps on my TDV8. Can I have some advice please:

1) I have noted 'sill cuts' on this subject - Do the existing sills need modifying?

2) Is it worth paying the extra for OEM?

3) I have noted the OEM alum strips can get very tarnished - If I don't go OEM is Stainless steel the go?

4) Are they easy to fit? OEM always a better/easier to fit?

Any advice welcome

Cheers

I had a problem with mine when I first got them, the alu was tarnishing with water marks. Contacted the supplier who replaced them pretty much straight away. I treated the new ones with a coat of Poor Boys Alloy Wheel Sealer and do this every month or so, they still look like new Thumbs Up

Thanks Ady,

Are you talking about the 'powerful uk' ones or the stainless ones from ebay?

Thanks again Ady - good man!

Do you have personal experience with these? If so are the side strips 'bright' stainless?

Regards,

The ones on e-bay are not stainless, they are aluminium on the outer edge which marks really easy as do the LR ones unless you keep upto cleaning them and give them regular coats of wheel wax Thumbs Up

I was also looking at the ebay ones last night, and after viewing the youtube fitting guides I am keen to get these onto our car... I had them down as a "must have" when I bought the car... last November! Will get round to them at some point.

powerfulUK are out of stock it appears, but there are plenty of the ebay ones.

Hi MRobbie,

Do you think the ones on Ebay are all the same manufacturer? They are all similar price and look identical!

I am thinking that - look at the pictures in the listings things like the packaging for the bolts all apear to be the same. There are large differences in price between different sellers though.

Re cutting of sill covers, watch the videos in you tube (video 1 I think?) as it shows the difference between standard and cut covers. From the video on youtube for fitting, I would imagine the time for cutting would not be much longer than the time for swapping fittings from old sills to new...

I wolud probably go for the pre-cut sills at the extra cost - Then if a potential buyer prefers the non side step lok it can be returned to existing - Plus I'm bound to mess up the sill cut at some point!

this is looking a good deal:

it was that listing I was looking at, along with the mud flaps they have... Although listed as Staines the items are in Oxfordshire somewhere - I was hoping to collect Staines is not too far from me. £15 delivery sounds an easier option though
