Road Tax deduction at the Pump

I've always thought this would be a much fairer system. Having just received my new tax disc for my second car at £445, i realise it probably equates to about £10 per journey given my infrequent use. In addition to my RRS, I also pay tax on my 2 bikes which also very get limited use.

Interested in others views.

I don't agree at all

It's just an excuse for higher fuel bills...if anything, just remove road tax...we pay enough (more recently) on fuel duty Mike

Mike I completely agree with you. Ive read some Censored about changing the way we are taxed as motorists. This seems to be a ludicrous system. What if you-re like me and put on average 150 quid in my rrs a week. And cane the miles.
How fair would that be?

Erm not , I cant understand why we have these premium luxury car if are going to moan at 400 quid road tax. If you dont like it or want to pay it get a small car, in fact why dont you go and buy a blue motion thing and then your exempt.

Id love to know what bloody do gooder thought up that petiton. In fact I might start a petition up to stop this petition. Oh hang on a second. I cant be Censored because I have a life.

A rather Irate FOX. Grrr Smile

His middle name is Victor. Got to be some old guy with nothing better to do...

I'm happy to buy a tax disc, even at £400+, because I drive the car I drive.

But I'd also be happy if the gits who drive untaxed and uninsured were properly dealt with. Castration would be a start... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Ady, what do you think though.....?

I just get sick of hearing people moaning about driving an expensive Luxury vehicle. I mean moan when moaning due. ie Fuel duty... car not working or anything but not pointless drivel that do gooders and as RRSTDV8 says.... the victor meldrews have written.

Foxy, its all a money making scam by the government Whistle they have seen that people who want luxury motors are prepared to pay a premium for the privilege, so they are now making us pay for it in tax yet again because they know we can afford it, its got nothing to do with emissions as we all know but the govenment have used co2 ratings on cars to charge accordingly, if it had anything to do with emissions on vehicles then a 7.5 ton 24 ft wagon that can carry 14 standard size pallets would not be £165.00 a year to tax. No matter how much we moan or complain it is what it is, as said above if you don't like it you do have a choice, don't buy a RRS Whistle Yes we would all like it to be cheaper but that aint going to happen Big Cry

My point isnt that Road Tax is or isnt expensive...i went in to my purchase(s) eyes open...i might not like the general principle about £400+ road tax, but its how it currently is...i may object to it on principle but that is all.

Again Fuel Duty - i might think its beyond a Censored -take, but again its not my use that dictates that and the element of my use is again something im fully aware of.

My issue is if you load road tax onto the fuel price (tax on a duty on a vat on a price per l) you then penalise everyone, save nothing, make more money for the government, blur more tax lines etc. It will save everyone nothing and will cost everyone more, do the maths - just add say 30p per l to you l's used then you annual mileage and then see how much more you will pay annually!!

Lets just petition for lower taxes and maintaining/increasing services...lets get rid of all these agencies and simplify the government system - National Government with Departments, Local Government with mirror directorates. Local government delivers all local activities - national the national, no executive agencies etc wasting money and fragmented.

National government ensure common standards but allows for delivery locally - government departments delivers large regional projects, maybe appointing different authorities to Lead if they require the dedicated leads.

then use the savings to pay off the deficit, reduce fuel duty, increase jobs, increase public services and have a rainy day fund... Mike

Sort our own problems out before giving vast sums of cash to everyone and their dog and we might be in a better position with lower taxes etc

The £900,000,000 a year we give to India to spend on a space program, developing nuclear power and paying off corrupt government officials over there would go a long way to reducing the RFT here for a start 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
