HELP. LR 'Teflon' warranty - updated

Hi all,

Some advice please.. My car (07 TDV8) is in for a service and they noticed that the front anti roll bar bushes and mass absorber kit are worn and causing clonking.. No surprises there then!

I have the full LR extended warranty and they have just refused to replace the parts as the problem is deemed as wear and tear as the car has covered 70k miles! What a load of crap.. They checked out the car before I purchased the warranty and were happy to sell it to me but now they're unhappy to pay out on a very well known fault.

Can anyone offer any advice please? This has been made worse as I've just landed in Portugal to have a bit of a rest for my birthday and thought it would all be sorted when I got back.. Complete tossers.

Cheers in advance,
James

Edit to add that the car was inspected by a LR dealer in February of this year (6k miles ago) and they reported no problems and authorised the purchase of the warranty.. So the wear and tear comment is not particularly valid.

I think a nice letter from your solicitor quoting the old consumer protection "Fit for Purpose" line may get them to re consider.

Let us know how you get on Thumbs Up

I think there is a lot on the Disco 3 (sister site) about this. If I remember correctly some were replaced and some not. It may be worth a read.

Update number one...

Have spoken to three people now at the warranty company and all are saying that they will not pay out as the car has done 70k miles and it's fair wear and tear. My argument is that they were happy to sell me the warranty based on a report and the car has only done 6k miles since. Seeing as I bought the warranty specifically to deal with this type of problem i feel that I was mis-sold.

Out of interest, what kind of mileage had your cars completed when the bits were replaces under warranty and was the warranty the extended one or the 3 yr LR one?

Cheers,
J

Mine is a warranty I got when I bought the car at just over 3yrs old. My car was on 38,000 miles. What does it say in your warranty small print about fair wear, did you ask about fair wear when you bought the warranty or just assume it would be covered.

And ask them just what does it cover as it could be worthless if they put most things down to wear and tear. 2017 Range Rover Sport Autobiography

Is yours the factory or top-up warranty? Could you let me know the rough mileage of each claim also?

Cheers,
J

There are some key questions:
1) What is the service life of the bushes...if its wear and tear then there will be a service life, brakes and discs are different as thats dependant on your breaking habit
2) Warranty booklet - what does it cover or not
3) i forget Mike

Update..

No luck I'm afraid. After some very unhelpful and rude people at the warranty company left me with no uncertainty over their position (the items were not going to be replaced as they are deemed to be on the 'wear and tear' list), I decided to call LR customer services. Whilst the quality of service was better they were unable to help as the warranty is not theirs. I mentioned that I purchased the warranty from one of their dealers, it was approved by them and I specifically asked about the level of cover for suspension parts but they were still unwilling to help. I even asked if they would offer something as a good-will gesture because I thought that I had been mis-sold a LR product by a LR dealer but they were unwilling to budge..

The upshot is that I have my car back without the repairs to the arb and I'm rather unhappy about the whole situation. My car, like pretty much all other RRS has not been off road and part of the suspension has failed after just 4 years and 70k miles - hardly fit for purpose! I'm thinking of having the work done by an independent LR specialist local to me who used to look after my discovery but can't help thinking that I'm not getting fair service here when others on the forum seem to have no problem having the same problem fixed under warranty..

Ay suggestions before I shell out for the repair?

Cheers in advance,
James

Have you spoken to citizens advice? Also many people have free legal advice through their bank account or insurance.... Utilise these options if they are open to you before you shell out.

And don't forget to keep us all updated as you go Thumbs Up

The whole issue is a perfect example of insurance sellers and providers taking your money but when the chips are down not wanting to pay out and even worse using any catch all get out clause to boot.

I would also suggest that you speak to CA and i also advise you to inform the dealer that sold you the policy that you are making a complaint to the Financial Services Authority on the basis that you belive that "THEY MIS SOLD" the policy, they are governed by the FSA on insurance policies in the same way as their other finance offerings. I would also take them to task under your consumer rights stating "That the sold product should be fit for purpose" and it is quite clear that what they have sold you is not - both car and insurance policy - on the basis that they inspected the car only 6k miles ago before authorising the purchase of the policy

I would also make Land Rover Customer Services aware of the above in writing and put C.C. The Sunday Times Motoring Section on your letter, that normally kick starts a more open minded discussion Whistle

Keep us informed and good luck Thumbs Up
