My Alpina B5 came with a factory fitted version and it has to be the single best driving aid I have ever come across - should be mandatory on all cars. You are always totally aware of your speed and it makes for relaxed and safe driving. It should also mean an end to those heart stopping moments when you pass a camera van "was I, wasn't I?". The Alpina also shows SatNav directions on the HUD along with any warning messages (fuel low etc) but it required a special windscreen for the HUD to work. With the B5 though its greatest party trick was making you realise you were into three figures with even the simplest of overtakes and you don't have time to look down

Highly recommended concept, I will investigate this version some more as I vowed I would never buy another car without it. It has kept my licence clean despite deploying all 530 horses and 700 Newton's at every available opportunity  '10 Range Rover Sport TDV8

dont know about this, i mean your speed guage is right in front of you etc i think it would be a distraction ..........

Load of crap if you ask me, I had it on my M5 and it just annoyed me on dark motorway journeys

A nice gimmick but after a month or so I just turned it off

plus I Phone Apps have loads of these that work very well at least at night etc. but i still dont know why you would need this

So a HUD would be a distraction but an iPhone and an app wouldn't? Oh, and not everyone has, or wants, an iPhone.

£100 for the HUD or £400 for a phone with an app. Know which one makes more financial sense.

I like the idea of this device. And being able to position it where it suits is useful - built in ones are much more limited in this regard, obviously. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Buts lots of us do have an iphone so it does make sense I you want that sort of thing (not that I do).

With me it was the opposite - I wanted to turn it off when the car was delivered but quickly realised its value and it has been on for 70,000 miles and six years. It is not a distraction as it hovers on the road in front of you and when lots is going on around you even looking down for a couple of seconds can get you into trouble. In the dark it is dimmed with the rest of the instruments and those that have driven the car have, without exception, agreed on its merits. Turning it off would be like switching off the air-con because you can open the windows! I miss it terribly when driving the Sport so I am hoping Land Rover will offer it on the next generation models.

But if you had an M5 you probably spent your time watching the fuel gauge, engine failure warning lights and wondering where the hell all the torque was

experienced this on a BMW X5, i found it very useful, it had sat nav directions too, and revs ============
