2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HST Zermatt Silver

What size did you go for in the end? And can you run them all year round?

Drove a TDV8 today with 20" low profiles and another with the same wheels but taller sidewall and it drove so much nicer. Picking up a S/C 4.2 HST on Monday, what is the stock size 275/40/20? Is it poss to run a skinnier tire with a taller profile, like 255/50/20 or similar? Would prefer a more comfy ride with less tramlining, not looking for a sporty ride I have a 1JZ Skyline dirft beast for that Very Happy

Cheers

T

Yeah 275/40/R20 as in the handbook for the 20" wheels

When I brought the car it had 255/50/R20 conti's which were wearing on the edges suprise suprise!! but it drove ok on them with no problems & quite well in the snow didn't lose traction unless I wanted it too Whistle

I then purchased some 22" Stormers and invested in some 285/35/R22 it drives very nice on them IMHO! The ride is a bit harder with the lower profile tyres but not a lot in it to be fair! I'll be putting them on again next summer Cheers Laurence.

Yeah I've noticed a lot of Range Rovers on the whole have worn edges, why is that, poor geo or poor tire combination?

Might try some 255/50/20's at some point and see how they fair, really don't want tram lining. Is that common on here with wider tires, spent years battling it with the majority of performance cars I've owned and don't want a similar saga, just a nice chilled drive Thumbs Up

Can you use these winter tires all year round or do they have high ware rates in the dry? I'll do some searching on here tomorrow for popular all year round tire choices.

My Brother-in-law runs Hankooks 275/40/R20 on his TDV6 these are a very good all year round tyre and seem to be wareing very well. To be honest if I were going for an all season tyre I'd have gone for these with out thinking twice and they aren't expensive either!

They get my vote Thumbs Up

One thing to remember the higher the tyre wall the less chance you have of rubbing kerb stones with your alloy wheel, the RRS wheels seem to love a good chew on granite kerb stones unless you park with your head out of the window and watch your wheels at all times! Cheers Laurence.

I've currently got Goodyear Excellence 275/40R20s on a TDV6 HSE MY2011 and am looking to change over to tyres with better winter/gentle greenlane grip on the same rims. I'd like to run them all year round.

After talking to AJS, my current thinking is to go for Grabber ATs in the same 275/40R20 size, which I understand is a reasonably popular move. The alternative of 255/50R19s didn't pan out 'cause apparently they aren't made.....shame. Sad

I've been told by the dealer that I shouldn't go for 255/55R19 if I want to avoid any warranty issues Confused , although it seems that is also a popular option. As the car is less than 6 months old, I'll go with what the dealer said and stick with just changing the tyres on the existing rims.

Before I do swap, what I was wondering is if anyone had experience of the ride quality of these tyres in that size on an RRS. The Goodyears are very smooth on good roads, but a little too firm on average roads, although not uncomfortable.

As long as the ride quality is no worse, I'll go for it.

Andaval, are these the ones your looking at:

http://www.camskill.co.uk/m77b0s262p63321/...06H_XL_TL_

They could be a nice all rounder, although only speed rating H (130mph) so will have to be good with my S/C Very Happy

Monky - yeah, the very ones.

When I asked the insurance company (LV) if they had any issue, they said the speed rating had to be "appropriate for the vehicle". As the tyres are rated at 131mph and the TDV6 top speed is listed at 124mph, they were happy the ATs are appropriate for me. I think the S/C top speed is 140, so that may not be so cut and dried.

Anyone got any experience of the road manners of the ATs ?

Thanks.

Bump for Andavals question.

To try and eliminate tramlining/wobbling at high speed I'm going to try probably 275/45's, hopefully the taller side wall will give a better ride. Would like to try maybe 255/50 or 255/55 but can't find much info if people are using a smaller width like these. I'm not looking for a performance tire, just one that doesn't make the car dangerous to drive at high speeds Laughing
