Scotland 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography Orkney Grey
2nd Hand TDV6 3.0 or TDV8

Was in at the dealers today - Evoque or stay RRS being the question.

During the conversation the salesman stated that the V6 3.0 is a better drive than the V8.

Avoiding Harry Hill's method of finding out, what do the forumn think? Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!
Ex- RRS HSE TDV6 07 Java Black, bi xenon, corner lights, side steps, tints, cool box, smoke side repeats, chrome "sport" boot sill
Ex - Audi A4 Cab 3.0TDi Quattro
Ex - Freelander2 SE TD4

Everyone on here with a V8 will say the V8 is best Shocked And others will say the 3.0L is best, i havn't had either but i have driven both, depends what you want out of a motor, with the evoque being the new kid on the block, all the attention is pointing in that direction, don't believe everything the dealer tells you Laughing

Hi Ady, I know where you are coming from but hoping those that have tried both and moved on may provide some good info.

The salesman stated the 3.0 was a smoother ride and didnt lose out to the V8 at all - I didnt expect to hear the second part of his statement. Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!

I had the same conversation with the same response. But then he had several 3.0 to sell and no V8 to sell.

I've got a 2007 TDV8 and, having driven a friend's 3.0, I prefer mine. The new interior etc. in his is lovely and a world away from the older version. But the V8 is just lovely to drive with bags of torque. And a V8 rumble too Thumbs Up

I think the key thing is that there are fewer TDV8s in comparison to 3.0s so the dealer wants the easier job of finding a 3.0 that suits you.

When I was chatting to a dealer and he asked what colour preferences I had etc., I said "not black". The look on his face was a picture - "you do realise about 80% of these things are black, don't you?" Laughing 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Well I've owned 2 x TDv8's - 1 a 2007 RRS, the other a 2010FFRR - the 2007 TDv8 was the best car I had ever owned, but not any longer.....................

Steuart, if you need the space and towing capacity then go for the TDv8, if not then the RRE Dynamic (the one with the Magneride suspension and adaptive dynamics) is a hoot and I'm getting 40+mpg on motorway hauls and 35-38 on local driving. When you want to have a blast you select the Dynamic program on the TR, the engine is remapped, the gearbox is remapped, the suspension monitoring is beefed up, the steering gets more feel and it is serious fun and a lot less weight to hurl around than the RRS. BAS now has a remap for them if you feel that the 190bhp isn't enough. It is also seriously well built. The ride with magneride and 20" wheels with low profile tyres is as good, possibly better, than your current car too and there's no suspension rattle. Only drawback................... you have no more off road clearance than a Freelander so off-road use is a case of avoiding deep ruts, but it can still hack it in the dirt. If you go for the Coupe then the Panoramic roof is essential, it gives 3cm more headroom than aluminium roofed cars and in the Coupe the rear can be very dark if you have the black roof liner and privacy glass so the panoramic roof floods the inside with daylight. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The one thing that put me off the RRE was the space. The boot just isn't big enough for our two dogs. They're lost in the RRS Very Happy

But the rest of it does sound very nice the way you've put it... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Yes I agree the boot is a little smaller than an RRS, but I wouldn't call an RRS boot very large after a FFRR's or Disoc4's.............. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

For me the 3.0ltr is just as good as the 3.6, As for the evoque it reminds me all the time of a freelander,but iam sure its great. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

I've been surprised by how small the boot on the rrs is (we also run an xc90 which is huge in comparison).

There's only one set of keys i would want to reach for when heading out tho having said that. Thumbs Up Have i got the busted controller?!?!!?

True, the FFRR and the D4 have bigger boots. The Evoque a more car like drive. All have varying off road ability.

I did consider a Disco (and a FFRR briefly) but the RRS just seemed to tick more of my boxes for some reason: I guess a biggish boot, reasonable off road ability if required and a more car like drive was the right combo at the time... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Got the TDV8 and had a 3.0 a couple of times while in for servicing etc.

By comparison I found the 3.0 quiet, smooth and refined, which is fine if that floats your boat. The V8 can be refined AND fun tho' and that certainly floats my boat. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Up to 60 there's really not much in it (apart from the soundtrack Mr. Green )

Pulling past 70 and the 3.6 starts to show it's extra grunt RRS gone
