It is a great car, no doubt about it!

We drove the face-lifted one with 218bhp and it was fantastic.

Course not.. RRS is a cut above.. this was the car to have back in 2001-2002, was top notch.. Still feels solid and is a different driving experience to the RRS.. RRS is better all round package, whereby the X5 is very driver orientated, and kicks the crap out of the rest of the competition still.

One thing which is annoying, is side steps, aren't side steps at all, they just stick out of the side! like side fins.. so when you get in, yeah they are ok, but not exactly a step as they are same height of the car, but when you get out, i still haven't perfected my getting out in a dignified manner procedure, you have to step well over it to get out as it catches your trouser leg!

Is slightly quicker then the RRS TD and handles a bit better no body roll, but i fear try taking it off road and it wouldn't get very far at all!

The X5 isn't "bad" off road, as long as it knows what it's getting into (i.e. the offroad course at Rockingham suits it perfectly surprise surprise)... but it's very easy to get one stuck. We attended a "muddy boots" event once in a friend's FFRR and he had to give an X5 a hand out of the mud as the X5 simply couldn't get traction.... nobody expects an X5 to do anything serious offroad but you'd at least expect it get across a muddy field... maybe Wink

Shmoogle - this is what annoys me about the anti 4x4's. They pick on LR yet these are the very cars that are built for 'offroading' They should direct their efforts to BMW and Mercedes whose vehicles are simply no good for offroading. I accept that most LR will not go offroad but when they do - wow! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Ah but really the X5 is RRSport / Landrover related as the owners have seen sense and gone for the best 4 X 4 you can get.
