Its that time of year again when I start digging out my winter tyres and checking whether they will do another Winter season. I ahve been using Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow for several years now and found them to be excellent for providing confidence, safety and functionality during recent winters. 2 of last years set need replaced and I find that MyTyres have a special offer on these at £191 a corner. That is a good price - significantly cheaper than prices quoted elsewhere and a lot less than I paid a couple of years ago.

I would like to fit some winter 275 x 40 x 20" tyres to my TDV8 , and there are suggestions on that site. Apart from price, and winter performance, I'd like a softer tyre that ironed out the pothole bumps! I was going to revert to 19" wheels, but I would prefer to stay with 20" wheels, and fit winter tyres that are as compliant as possible, but good for ice and snow..if you get my drift!

just got some cooper LTZs for 166 a corner from 4x4 tyres in Land rover owner magazine, they were for 20" alloys. Haven't tried them yet though but they get good reviews, so now I have purchased these we'll probably have the mildest winter on record  Now gone Orkney grey SDV6 HSE with body style kit contrast stitch ebony leather, privacy, black piano, 22" Lowenharts for summer, 20" with Leon LTZ for winter.

I think the way to go is 19" with winter tyres - if you have somewhere to store them in the summer (whilst storing your 20" summer wheels & tyres in the winter). The 19" RRS wheels are as cheap as chips on ebay (no more than £200 for a set of 4).

This saves the cost and damage asocoiated with changing tyres on rims twice a year and in winter the higher sidewall profile that the 19" wheels provide is valuable for comfort and saves your shiny 20" rims from winter wear & tear. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Thats the way I'm going ... having bought Tim in Scotland's set of 19" with Pirelli Snow and Ice ..pre loved tyres.

I didn't want the hassle of getting tyres changed over every 6 months on rims and as you've said winter alloys take a fair bit more hammer. 2011 MY- RRS HSE - Zermatt -Ebony-Piano .... its a monochrome world
