Re: newbie looking to buy

Where you thinking of buying one from, main dealer or indy?
If not covered by warranty get one, i've owned one since last december and already used LR warranty.
A very common problem is knocking suspension, do a search and more will be revealed.

Cracking cars, you'll love it despite the long list of niggles.

That's a really open ended question Tom!

You will get lots of advice, some good, some sarcastic! Listen to it all - I did.

I took 12 months looking and learning and I'm really pleased with what I got. It's not that new, but it has everything I want. I've dressed it up with a few new bits and it looks the part.

I wanted a low mileage, one owner, full service history car. In a combination that was appealing to sell on, with all the relevant toys included. I got it. It took time and I went all over the country to see some real pigs that owners said were 'immaculate'!

I wish you well with the search, you will enjoy once you have purchased.

i know but i have never spent that much on a car, im only 21 but love 4x4s and with my new job i can afford to (car iv currently got is a fiesta ST lol) and want one like you say low miles and full history etc. so im not planning on rushing into it, going around the country also does not bother me to find the right one so could be the new year at least before i get one, just wanting to do the home work first

Expect your fuel bill to rocket if coming from a fiesta, not to mention things like replacing tyres and brakes etc.
Don't under estimate the running costs of these cars it ain't cheap, tax is a whopping 460 quid a year! 2015 Golf R DSG

been researching that also tyres arent a problem my mate sponsored by pirelli tyres on rally scene, it wont be my every day vehicle just for something to go out in, out of interest what mpg roughly is everyone getting? and for tax if i get one pre-06 isnt the tax only 245 for year?

The correct tyres for them are £250 a pop and replacement alloy wheels £400 for the "proper" ones. Think of £450 for an annual service at a main dealer BEFORE any non service work is done. If you buy an early one it could be coming up for a cam belt change and anything requiring dealer assistance is going to cost you £120 an hour for labour although there are some excellent independents out there who charge a lot less. If you want your new car to be reliable you need deep pockets and always remember that it has "Range Rover" across the bonnet and tailgate - everybody assumes you are a millionaire and charges accordingly 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I'd pencil in about £3150 fixed costs a year:

TAX 460
SERVICE 500
TYRES 700
BRAKES 300
INSURANCE 1200

and about 40 pence a mile fuel, at 16mpg, which is how you'll drive it Thumbs Up ============

I don't think you will be replacing tyres once a year? Rearly ? I only do 6000 miles a year so tyres last bout 4 years. The brakes last a lot more. In my last sport there was 42000 on clock and the brakes had loads of life left in them. Guess is how you drive or thrash it.
