Fuel filler cap / polishing machine

Imagine my suprise yesterday evening when i pulled into my local filling station to give the old girl a full tank of diesel. As i removed the cap and placed it onto the little holder the bloody thing separated, hit the floor and smashed into dozens of pieces. Big Cry Big Cry I hope this is not the start of a self destruct phase. Sad

Whilst i'm on can anybody recommend a polishing machine or should i go with old fashioned elbow grease. I have heard of machines damaging paint, i know that in skilled hands that will probably never happen but for a rank amateur what are your suggestions?

Cheers Andrew

Thanks for the links mobbster i'll enjoy reading about the polishers Yawn Seriously if they do a good job and cut the amount of time required it will be a good investment.

As for the fuel cap, if i had a petrol, i would probably have worn it out by now taking it on and off to refuel Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Regards Andrew
