3.0 or V8??

I’ve been wanting a new shape RRS ever since I got my 55plate S/C! A little over six months in to ownership and quite a few grand lighter in my pocket on mods to mine I’m climbing the walls looking every day on all the usual sites Auto Trader, Pistonheads etc… etc!! Always thinking that I’d get the new 5ltr S/C I’ve seen a lovely black example with all the toys, 16500k on the clock 2010 plate BUT it’s a 3.6TDV8 It would make sense to go over to a TDV8 as I’m always in a petrol station filling up! Then 200 miles later back in again for another fill up, to be honest I’m getting board with petrol stations now!
Anyway the question is this: I know the 3.6TDV8 is a very good engine but is it the old technology? If you were going to buy a new shape RRS would it be sensible to go with the new technology i.e the 3ltr? Oh the Black 2010 RRS is main dealer £45995 Cheers Laurence.

If you've got an SC at the moment definitely go with the TDV8. I think the 3.0 will leave you a little disappointed, not just the performance but the sound and refinement. Expect around 5mpg less than the 3.0 though but it does come with lots of extra kit as standard. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Please !!!! Dont call it a Tdi, that name went out with the 300 series diesel in the mk 1 Disco, I'm liking the TDV8, but having been in several 3.0 V6's and had that lump in my Jag I think that given the 5mpg difference it's hard to beat. 08 2.7 RRS "S"

Not found a 5 mpg differance between V6 and V8. V8 just has more sheer grunt. If you want to tow even more so go V8

Took 3 axle trailer to Loch inver in V6 (750miles) it only managed 22mpg!! V8 the same but much more comfortable under power and braking Thumbs Up  SDV8 vogue SE.

I love mine and it currently is showing 25.9 as average over last 3k.

Jealous of new model interior but not willing to dump 30k for the privilege.

Keeping mine for a few years yet. Thumbs Up  SDV8 vogue SE.

Hoping my mileage improves then. Done a few hundred miles in my TDV8 and it's showing between 20-21mpg. I am still in the "how can something this heavy go and corner so well" stage of ownership though Wink so that should improve soon. Maybe. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I drive at a high average but if I am in the mood i can make mine drop a fair bit too. The later models will show instant fuel figures. Mine is a very early V8 and only shows average. Don't like to keep resetting. Whistle  SDV8 vogue SE.

Mine is regularly returning 29.8 and goes to 31 on a run Thumbs Up

I think the TDV6 is fine...if your buying a v8 you get the supercharged, if your buying a TD anything the v6 does it Mike

Having owned both I got 25mpg consistently from the TDV8 but 29-30mpg from the 3.0 TDV6 with the same driving. The sound and extra grunt was well worth it though! WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Have to say my reaction to choice is based on a towing experience.

Cant say I have much knowledge of 3.0 as purely a car. But V8 rocks Thumbs Up

Brembo brakes are a big must in my car. Threre is a whisper of a new TDV8 but might just be dreaming Whistle

Won't change mine until a new TDV8 is available Bow down  SDV8 vogue SE.
