Picture Perfect Camera alignment machine

Had my S/C for about 6 months now and I always seemed to be correcting the steering when motorway driving – and town driving come to that!

Anyway fitted a set of 22” Stormers a couple of weeks ago thought it would be a good idea to get the tracking checked. After driving to several garages that couldn’t fit their laser tracker over my new 22” wheels I was pointed in the direction of a tyre company ‘Jet Wheels’ I think they were called in Benfleet, Essex.

The guy down there was very keen to show me his new machine that was in he’s words ‘Better than a laser tracker’ There are four precision cameras in the Aligner 'Tower' to measure the position and angle of each wheel of your car. Then the Aligner's computer uses this information to calculate your car's current measurements then instructs the operator as to which angles they need to adjust. The main angles of alignment are; Camber, Caster, Front & Rear Toe (tracking) Thrust Angle of the wheel. He pointed out that my rear off side wheel was turning in and could be causing the rear end to be trying to overtake me when driving in a straight line. This seemed lightly in view of how the car drove! Anyway a few adjustments were made and I was suitably bent over the desk, had £65 removed from my wallet!

I have to say that it was £65 well spent I recon! The car now drives lovely! It feels planted on the road, doesn’t wonder and no corrective steering needed either on motorway or town driving. Best of all I know I’m not getting any undue wear on my new tyres!

I’d recommend it to anyone concerned about tyre wear and any undue corrective steering problems.

The link below is to tell you a bit about it although this is NOT the company that I used

I think I read that a Disco3 need to be put in tight tollerance mode for wheel alignment, does the RRS need this?

Rrs just as sensitive as d3 with regard to wheel alignment and has to be put into the right suspension mode as per D3 also.

£65 is money very well spent. I spoke to my local dealer asking why they charge £180 for the same service, their reply was that the kit costs so much and they do not get the custom that a dedicated tyre centre does so have to charge more.

Malvern tyres in cheltenham charge £55 for anyone in this area who would like their's checked.

Is there a way of checking who has this in your area?

YES... YES!! I forgot to mention that bit. I always put my RRS in access mode when I stop. When the guy put my RRS on the ramps luckily I realized it was still in access mode and told him! The car was then raised to normal road height before any adjustments were made. This was very lucky as you may or may not know the wheels splay out a bit when the suspension is lowered so worth mentioning if you get it done. (Watch the rear wheels when the suspension is lowered in the snow or ice they slip out) This is why I always lower my suspension while on the move just before I stop.

I have to say once again it now drives like a new car very impressive and it looks like I had a good deal at the price I paid!! Thumbs Up

This link may explain the process better
