Sclass died and new car for mrs..

My trusty 56/06 s320 cdi L which was just touching 120k died on thurs .. Gearbox gone.. £3k for new one! Ouch..
So it's going away and being traded soon as it's back..

Question is replacement: pre facelift with all toys: £35k 25k miles, 09. (looks same as current one!)
Or pretty boggo facelift with LEDs, £41.5k? 15k miles, 10 plate. Hmm?????

Other car being swapped, looking for new car for mrs, current a8 3.0 tdi quattro. (too slow).
Was looking at 740d msport, but no 4wd/quattro kills it.

So list is:
Gl320 cdi, circa 08 for £30-35k
X6 35d 08-09 circa: £30-35k.
Ml 350cdi 09 circa £30k..
Full fat rr: 3.6vogue £35k circa 08,
Or rrsport 3.6tdv8 or new 3.0 for between £30-40k..
No kids, no real load lugging, no dogs, speed, consumption and style more on agenda..

I'm steering towards x6, drive well (fastest!), hold value well and well specd in norm.. Full fat bit dated, new one soon? Sport, would want 3.0 and they quite pricey still.. Any thought/comments welcomed.. On either topic..

Hey Kam,

Just a thought, as it will be for Mrs Kam, have you asked her what she would like? Whistle

Why dont you hold off and get an evoque? I know they are only 2wd, so this may be why.

My mum just got a new volvo xc90 and that is really nice and to be honest, i think if i didn't have the rrs and wanted something 4x4 and stylish, I would definitely be heading down the volvo garage. Yep I know and im not even 40 !
IMHO they are so much better then then Merc GL which comes with nothing as standard.
The Volvo engine is a D5 turbocharged 2.5l which gives you approximately 420nm of torque in comparison to RRS which is 600nm, The GL320 is only 398nm!!! . The Volvo also has cooled seats (one of the few things i miss from my FFRR).
The Volvo also gives a 0-60 of 9.8 secs whilst the the RRS is actually 8.8 seconds !

Any way just an idea I really like the volvo Smile

Thanks.. Decided to go for facelift sclass.. Volvo? Know what you mean, they are well spec'd for money, came to the big rrs meet in one of my customers.. But not the car for us I'm afraid.. We're not 30 yet let alone 40!!

Evoque looks odd in flesh, plus pricey!! X6 is looking best residual wise, and bang for the buck..
Rrsport 3.0 engines still mostly above £40k..

You've made right decision, the new updated model looks good with the new rear lights, exhaust tips and LEDs to the front....just take into account that the new S Class is due out towards end of next year.......

Correction. Went for 730Ld Se with lots of toys. £43k and vat qualifying and 5 years servicing.. Only 2k mikes and the kit on board makes it feel like a proper upgrade from the sclass.. Hopefully pick it up Friday..

Going to go for x6 35d too but the way the prices are falling in the trade makes me want to wait a couple months.. Grab a bargain then!
