well all these turbo diesel jeeps have at least one/two cars that have blown up in the past.. there was a massive Volvo issue with turbo diesels in the V70 which used to cause the same problem as mine had.. i.e. engine turning off.. i found a massive article about it.. Volvo got screwed over a few law suits.. may be worth digging that out and showing him.. but im not confident on the alternative either..? ML.. is notorious for being Censored .. and they won't consider anything else.. gawds sake.. this is getting annoying a bit..

Was this the problem with the engines by the way VA.. any specifics? seems to be all of them from this article? is slightly old now too, so maybe they have sorted this now..

Kam - I don't know enough about the Volvo to really comment. MRs VA likes it but I would have bought the D3 if I had the money! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Well after a whole day of mooching round dealers looking at different models.. verdict as follows:

Landcruiser.. old dinosaur of a car.. engine is loud rattly, and the rear seats actually not very big, no feet space.. so my nephew will be comfortable in it till he is at most 2 years older then he is right now.. hmm.. and the dealer was a Censored , so bad luck.. bye bye..

Volvo XC90.. well looks out of proportion slightly and the rear seats are simply too small.. they need car for four adults (five sometimes) and two kids, rear seats all seem like kiddy seats.. so a no go as well..

Disco3.. they humoured my insistances and went down to LR wolverhampton.. sat in it.. liked the space, the spec level and the dealer was nice to them took them on a test drive.. not too much bigger then the X5 and they had the right cars on offer.

After a few hours of decision making discussions, they decided the transit connect is the way to go after all!! as a process of elimination, they realised the LR3 is the one for them to answer their current family transport issue, and ticks all the right boxes and has all the right tools for the job.

So they decided to offer on the Disco3's in stock as ex demos,
One Black with Alpaca, and the other Buckingham Blue with alpaca..
While deciding and urrming and aahing.. black sold in front of them..so onto the buckingham blue one now..

Both 55 plates, Dec reg, HSE Spec, Bluetooth, Side Steps, 20" Alloys, tracker, privacy glass, 4k miles for £38k.

After many phonecalls around various dealers asking about current stocks, they decided to place this LR3 on reservation so have now taken the plunge and we now have a family member with an LR product on the drive.. so i am partly redeemed right?

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

When do you start working for LR in the sales dept Kam? Now have you presuaded them of the merits of joining the D3 forums as well, if not then your bonus could be on the line?

Is the D3 not the only SUV on the roads at present that CAN seat up to 7 adults in full sized seats in some degree of comfort? Note I said SUV, not MPV! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Kam they have certainly made the right choice. I had a XC90 for a 3 day test drive, it was nice and well made but boring and yes the space inside was a lot less than the D3.
Just make sure that you make enquiries into whether the D3 is an actual demo and not a rejected one, also make sure that it has all of the latest software downloads before you pick it up as it will make a big difference.

You say it has 20" wheels. are they from an RRS ?

One last point, check the paint finish carefully as there have been a few Buckingham blue D3's incl my own (previous one) that have had a poor overall finish ( very orange peel like).

Thanks Cliff.. will email my brother in law the above points asap..

They are looking to pick up the Disco3 next weekend.. no unfortunately Tim, they don't give repeat custom discount.. and seeing as though my local dealer had nothing for them, it meant they had to go elsewhere..

Will enquire what alloys this D3 has and whether the paint finish is ok..

They made a good choice.
I'll post my comments on the D3 versus the RRS shortly. I've now done 1,000 miles and I have to say, that I'm not missing the Sport. My D3 handles so much better than a friends I test drove and is on par with the Sport. I can't see that it is all due to the 1" larger alloys. Anyway, the general ride of the D3 is more comfortable than the Sport. Matt

RRS ownership for 1 yr, then D3 for 2 yrs. Then cut back to old bangers and working my way back up through two Peugeots in 6 months. Now got Saab 9-5 2.3t and enjoying the performance!

Having driven the D3 at LRE on 21st April I have to admit I was blown away with the refinement and ride quality. Quite a few commented on the same thing but if that was my no.1 priority in a car I certainly wouldn't have a 320Cd Sport (Rock hard suspension, liquorice band tyres = tyre roar) and would have bought a D3 instead of RRS

I firmly stand by my choice - I much prefer the RRS! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad
