I just don't have the energy to lift my bike and little fox cubs in the boot....I had to ask a man to help us at the park last time... Smile

Ok, I've now bought a removable tow bar on eBay for £150, so now for the rack. Best option looks like the Altera, which slides out of the way of the boot for access. Bit more expensive than the Thule one, but does look top drawer. The electrics sounds like a fart on though, can't believe it isn't just plug in and go.

The bike/car interface is a right pain in the backside, all those sticky out pedals & levers etc, the last time I did anything with bikes I just hooked the trailer on the back containing bikes, tents and almost anything volatile, all wraped up in a big blue tarp. I tried a rear mounted rack for a while and discovered that some one always wanted something that was only retrievable by opening the boot, divorce makes life so much easier !

If your going across the channel I believe Spain and Portugal require bikes to be on roof.

Im think the opposite as I need a man with a bigger car than mine ! Or a trailer, the bikes will be easy then !

Today was again a disastrous effort of trying to get both bikes in the car with seats down and not dirtying the roof lining... Roll on winter when it will be sledges and skis not bloody bikes Laughing Smile

Thule Euroway Thumbs Up takes 3 bikes with 4th option IIRC, towbar mount, really secure, tilts for boot access, cannot recall price now but I know when I bought it the electrics, towbar and rack cost more than the break it was bought for Rolling with laughter .... folds flat to hang in the garage Thumbs Up

No regrets though - by far best option I have seen...

Well under £1K though from memory - carrier comes with electrics and interated plate etc etc... towbar £120 ish electrics £80 & DIY fit - rack may have been £300 ish from memory but that was some years ago....

I have been looking at the set up with the electrics, is it right that you have to remove either the rear bumper or light cluster to fit them? Seems like a joke that a 4x4 costing the best part of £60k still needs the towing wiring adding to it.

To be honest, I can't be arsed with that nonsense, I've got a Lotus to take bits off and put back together, I didn't buy a RRS expecting the same.

It's got a green oval on the front, that makes it a LR product, that means it's big boys meccano and should be taken apart on a regular basis

I'm starting to realise that. It is a British motoring tradition isn't it. Anyway, literally 5 minutes ago the tow bar I bought on ebay was delivered .......... with the key snapped in the lock!

I don't know if it was already done, or snapped in transit (I assume nobody would actually send it with a snapped key in, so I'm thinking snapped in transit, as it wasn't boxed up, it was just just wrapped). Bit Censored off to be honest. Are these just the perils of buying stuff on eBay?

Anyway, anyone know how to get the offending stump of the key out?

Needle-nose Pliers? or is it too deep in?

Seems too deep in. Do you need to do something to allow the key to realease anyway (i.e. key only comes out when the tow bar is attached)?

key will only release when it's attached and locked

The "grip" part of the key hinges to allow it to sit flush with the lock barrel, so you've been unlucky getting one that's been snapped. RRS gone

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Santorini Black

Being really lazy - does anyone have links to something that they have used and rate? Ideally the following:
1) Removable towball and electrics kit - does this have to be RR original - does it have to get 'added' to the electrics by Landrover?
2) Bike rack that will go as near to the back of the car as possible without causing damage, 2 bikes, tilt/slide to get into tailgate if possible but not the end of the world if not as long as it is relaively easy to remove.
3) And this may be a new invention but I am sure someone must have though of this - would be great if there is a recepticle I can bolt to the garage wall that will take the bike rack so I can use it to store the bikes in the garage as well!

Cheers
