This is a known warranty issue for Land Rover, it needs the complete water bottle to be replaced as the floats are hopeless and deteriorate very quickly giving the false "Low coolant level" warning.

I have looked all over the bottle, and i can't see any wires going to it only Hoses. Sad

Coolant issues

Hi, my first post so hopefully can get some idea of what happened,
After a 150mile run on the motorway, the coolant level low light appeared and the red explanation mark in a triangle. A week later i returned to collect my car from the airport where it had been left stationary, and when i turned the car on the error message had gone. 50 miles later the error message appeared with a further message sayting engine overheating and the pointer moving to H position on the temperature gauge. i continued for a further 1mile to pull into the services, before i could get there the engine cut out, the display flashed with several error messages quickly (remember one being engine oil level, and 2 or 3 others), smoke started coming from the engine and everything cut out.

the car is 16months old with 15000 miles. its first service was at 10500 when the car was 12 months old.

Anyone know the cause or why this would have happened being such low mileage.

By the way it took Land rover 3 hours to get to me (not in peak hour) to recover my vehicle! only to be told when i got there the book wasn;t stamped with the first service and the warranty was void! luckily i had my receipt from the service, so all good!

a little off the subject but has anyone attempted to replace this bottle themselves rather than allowing the stealers to nab £150.00? .. ive looked on barry's gallery (thank you its very helpful),ordered the bottle and a new switch and it seems pretty straight forward ... just wondering before i attempt it (and probably put the wifes car out of action!!! Embarassed ) if i need to look out for anything

thanks as always

sorry to drag up an old thread but I changed the switch on the bottom of the expansion tank and it did no good.

I'm still getting the intermittent 'low coolant level' warning light so I assume I need an expansion bottle - I found one on fleabay but it says from 08 on? shouldn't it be 05 onwards?

I'm in Dubai so the Dealers will naturally add on a zero to anything I'd pay for it in the UK so I'd rather buy one there and send it here.

Its so simple to solve this problem.Take the COOLANT LEVEL WARNING SWITCH and cross over it..!!! with a 12 gauge wire .Problem is gone forever. Dont need to remove and instal a new expansion tank at all. I dont need to know electrically the level of the coolant. It never goes down abruptly. Check its level Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter once a month.♫ ♫.

Cost of this...$$ 00.00...... Bow down

my indie says most of the readings are false due to the coolent not being the correct gravity, meaning its been watered down to much, a top up with neat coolent will cure it, but not the ready mixed stuff from Halfords, as that is part of the problem, i had it on mine, the indie drained some out, put some neat stuff in, and all is well Very Happy 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))
