The Intelligent FBH (Fuel Burning Heater) Controller

Bell Auto Services is pleased to announce here first the launch of a brand new Fuel Burning Heater Controller, initially for the LR Disco 3 and pre 2010 RRS diesel model cars. Kit 1 will be available and in stock a couple of weeks after Billing show.
Ideal for warming your engine on cold winter mornings while sat in the comfort of your house, removing the need to go outside and start your engine to defrost the car !

BAS has listened to customers requests and produced a product that will start your fuel burning heater without you having to physically start your engine.

The intelligent controller works by establishing communication with the FBH and reading its status, voltage, temperature and other details. It then issues the commands needed to start the heater and finally checks that the heater has started correctly.
If the heater fails to start then the controller will automatically clear old faults if necessary and attempt to restart a total of 3 times.

All versions are able to manually control fuel pump priming process of the heaters diesel pump if needed, which previously meant a visit to the Webasto dealership or your local LandRover dealership if you don’t have access to diagnostic tools yourself.

The Intelligent FBH Controller will be available in a number of versions:

• Kit1: Basic, press button to start, press button to stop, with built in RF controlled two channel hand held “plip” for remote start and stop also allowing capability to add your own GSM box.

• Features as standard, “start stop” plip, “start stop” via on box button, 3 times restart attempt after fail, FBH fuel pump prime via button on box.

• Kit2: Built in RF as above in Kit1 but with the added functionality of a GSM controller that gives a zero cost “dial to start” option. It also provides you with full integration via text message control for status reports and fault codes on demand. Still in development but can be sold as an upgrade to Kit1.

• Features, “dial to start” by GSM, “dial to stop” By GSM, Heater Status reports by SMS, Fault code number by SMS, a spare GND timed output which could be used to control a heated screen relay for example (2nd battery advised), Low battery heated screen switch off, Battery warning by SMS as well as the possibility of 4 phone numbers having access to control it. (SMS reports to only 1 of the numbers)

The controller is designed to start the FBH heater independently of the vehicle’s CAN bus system so you can lock and unlock the doors without it stopping the run process, It can also be wired if needed to switch off the heater when the ignition is turned on.

We are still working on the function list that Kit 2 will provide and any suggestions are welcome. One idea is to command the unit via text message to heat until a certain water temperature is reached, EG 85 deg C. Our tame programmer likes a challenge so tell us what you want and we will see if it can be implemented!

Im still calculating the final build and component cost so i may be a little inaccurate until all components arrive and get built, but we are aiming it to be arround 199+vat with free uk delivery for Kit1,

Kit2 add on needs a little more work yet but i hope it will be arround 99+vat.

Kit 1 will be a simple 3/4 wire install, Battery 12v and GND, wire to FBH and ing sence if you require to use it.

I recon 15 mins max.

Pete

Pete,

Will this unit be able to switch on and off the heated screen, I think this is something you mentioned some time ago?

I take it that it will have a battery monitor built in so as to switch off if the battery gets below a certain charge? "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you.

Hi Pete and guys!!

I had ordered the BAS-kit, since there was no life in my RRS -06..
I have recently bought the car, and the seller said that it worked.. Confused

Well well, my brothers FBH didn´t work on his, D3, but after fitting the
BAS-kit, and doing some priming it went like a rocket..

I was a little curious to see if it would do the same magic in my car,
and didn´t have the patience to wait for it to arrive...

I arranged a rendez-vouz with Brother (Sinbad58) on neutral ground, and
told him about my crazy idea..

Said and done, he fell for it.. Cool

My idea was as follows:

We connected the cars with jumpercables, to get a siamese-electric-system.
Disconnected the "data-socket from brothers FBH, inserted a thin electrical cable
in socket #2 on his connector.
Connected the other end in my vacant #2 socket in my, attached connector..

Crossed our fingers, and pressed the "start"-button on the "plip"..
Nothing.....but after about 5 seconds, my FBH roared to life..

Success!!!! Thumbs Up

After letting it run for a few minutes, we stopped it, disconnected everything, and
started the car. FBH started by it self.. Ran for a few minutes, then stopped..

Tried a few times that evening and the FBH started, and ran for a few minutes, and stopped..

Last sunday we were at a gathering with the local L/R-Club, and there we did the "docking-procedure" again, and let the heater go for a full cycle of 45 minutes..

The FBH didn´t start on it own later that day.. Sad

Today I picked up a parcel at our UPS-depot, and about one hour later I had a FBH-kit
installed in my car..

It was "easy-peazy" to install..

Now I will have a warm and nice car when going to work.. Very Happy

Cheers

unless they are irresistible.
