Keys locked in Car!!

Howdy All,

Thought I would post to see if anyone can explain how this could happen.

My wife was at the shops yesterday, with our 10 mth old.

She loaded groceries in the boot, and put her bag on the RHS back seat (it had the proximity key in it) like she has done 100 times.

She thinks she may have hit the lock button on the door handle as she closed the RHS rear door. She then went around to the LHS rear to put the bub in his car seat to find the car was locked.

She couldn't unlock it, all doors shut tight. Her wallet and phone were in the car along with the key.

Ended up having to get a taxi home to collect the spare key, and car unlocked in the usual fashion when she got back with the spare.

I had a pretty irate wifey as a result, though it could have been a lot worse if the car had locked with son in the car!!

I tried to replicate this last night to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea how this could happen? Wifey was starting to love the RRS, but now is worried about the car locking and so keeps the key on her person at all times (which kinda defeats the purpose of the proximity key in the first place).

I look forward to hearing from anyone who has had a similar problem. 2011 TDV6 Luxury - Baltic Blue, Ebony with Contrast Stitch, RSE, Stormers, Towpack.

May well be key signal was being interfered with by the phone if they were in the bag together , wife had similar thing on comfort access on a BMW not long ago.

Odd that she managed to press the lock button by accident though Sad 2014 5.0SC AB

My guess along similar lines, definately the fob signal can be masked by phone signal.
perhaps all passenger doors were locked and boot opened on it's own leaving other 4 doors locked.
Did she put her bag on the back seat from the rear door rather than opening a rear passenger door?
Key signal masked by phone so when rear door closed it self locked as it didn't detect fob.
it's the only explanation I can work out.
Since I did similar with my old car the key is always in my pocket now never ever left in the car. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Had a similar one with a D3 with the key in the ignition people sat in the back got out 10 minutes after me, shut the doors and it locked itself, £78 for a taxi to bring me the spare and had to use the manual keyhole to get in.

Self preservation or what...........

The exact same happened to us - but with the 6 month old baby locked in the car!! After much (too much) negotiation LR replaced the keys and the receiver module - and discovered the antennae for the key system had never been attached to the receiver. The problem didn't then recur (but we had trouble replicating it anyway) until we got rid of the MY10 car - for its numerous other faults.

I was reliably told by LR it is impossible to lock the key in the car! Good luck!

I had exactly the same thing happen to me whilst at Edinburgh Zoo. By the time I'd gotten the baby buggy, changing bag and other assorted baby stuff we'd need for the day, out of the boot I forgot my keys were sitting in the centre console. I pressed the button on the drivers door and the car all locked up fine and off we went for our day at the zoo. Several hours later i returned to the car and ofcourse couldn't find my keys Shocked I looked everywhere but to no avail. Then I looked through my window and saw them sitting on the centre console Shocked Shocked I tried pulling the door handle hoping the car would open but it wouldn't..... I really started to get that sinking feeling... What were we going to do, especially with the wee fella... I tried the door again and on the 3rd or 4th attemp the car just opened Bow down Thank god! What a relief..... Then ofcourse the realisation sinks in that if I had managed to eventually get it open so could anyone else that had tried the doors and I could have lost a very expensive car and not gotten a penny from the insurance!!
