Any one out there changed their gearbox oil? what mileage to change? 06 s/c...or are the gearboxes sealed for life? Thanks

I am going to change mine when i can get the time and dig up the info.
It is recommended by landrover that the gear oil is changed every 10 years 150K
If you search for drive line shunt you may find more info, as some of the recomendations were to change it

i changed mine on my o7 easy to do oil bit trumpy tho and its main dealer only special type if you dont use the specifide type it curdles

ok the gearbox so ive been told at dealer holds 7ltrs

but when i drained gearbox i only captured about 4.5 ltrs beacuase aparently in all the nooks ie the transfer box etc holds all the others ltrs

i only managed to get 4.0 ltrs back in

i took for a spin then rechecked oil level and topped up 0.5 ltrs

took for another spin up on ramp again level was ok

others on here didnt get 4.5 ltrs in only 2-3 some have said so try to capture the old oil and measure it before you refill

My dealer told me you have to drop the oil twice to do it properly, at a cost of around £450 in total he said the oil is around £28 per litre

In Australia many have independents have debunked the sealed for life or 10 years and are changing the transmission fluid at approx 80-90K KM's, along with the diffs and transfer box. It is strongly recommended to flush the gearbox with clean fluid first, so hence why expensive, your dealer was correct this time

On my MY05 I had the transmission/diff/transfer box oils changed on its 96K service, it was a lot smoother thereafter , it cost approx 600 UK (950 Aussie) including a major service  Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Although five years late I've just done a gearbox fluid and filter replacement on a RRS SC and its ridiculous.
Due to a protrusion from the filter pan (which includes the filter) the following was removed to get the thing off
Cross member
Cats
Engine mounts
Gearbox mount
Propshaft ( yes for one supid bolt)
Various shields

Once all that's done you'll still struggle to get the pan out. We have to give it a tug and the protrusion snapped enabling removal. Thankfully the new pan has more compliance but what a mission.

Are we not all talking about a gearbox flush or megaflush as it is more commonly referred to, So many threads on here about this subject, as mentioned a simple drain and refill only drains half the oil from the Gearbox which is why a special machine is used to carry out this process. Thiis normally recommended to be carried out at the 70k mark 2010 RRS, TDV8

As far as I'm aware the gearbox fluid should be changed along with the filter in the pan. The pan removal is the nightmare. Not changing this seems somewhat odd as you wouldn't change the engine oil without the filter also, so why the gearbox.

A flush is recommended by ZF at 50-75k.

FWIW, the filter is often not considered worth changing (because it's only really a strainer), so my view is that the best course of action is either flushing as above, or more frequent simple drain and re-fills, and not to worry about the filter for a long time.

Apologies for disagreeing but if you take the transmission pan off you will see why replacement is suggested. My advice is to replace the pan at the suggested intervals.

The suggested interval is 150k, so TBH, I don't think that's entirely contrary to my suggestion, though I would be thinking of maybe 200k (time factor to be considered also, however). I believe the experience of those such as Geoff and Disco Mikey is that the filters are spotless, even on high mileage vehicles, unless the gearbox has become damaged.  Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
