Kimberley trek

About to head off tomorrow on a trek through the Kimberley that will take in all 5 states and clock up almost 14,000kms in just 6 weeks.

Mud Map Here:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&i...36&z=5

Kalumburu Rd is closed until end of June so looks like Mitchell Falls is out.

Post your top 5 highlights here so we can throw some alternative stops in to our itinerary if we can't get up there and end up with four extra days to kill.

Mind you, a few days lying on the beach at Broome or Cape Leveque would be just fine too Wink 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

J, i am not jealous one iota Wink Hope you have a great trip Thumbs Up and i will keep track of your adventures on line

As the rain is extra heavy this year up north have you had updates on the state of the Gibb River Road ? Assume it has reopened and in reasonable condition after the wet

p.s. With 4 days to kill possibly, and if you are in Darwin, why not head to Kakadu, definitely on one of my must things to do

Howdy all

Just made it back to Alice Springs and split a rear CV so a one night stop here while they patch it before we head out to the rock and then home.

Have put some pics up in a gallery and posted a couple of samples here of the first couple of weeks adventure.

More to come soon.

Will take me months to go through all the footage and images but will be well worth it hopefully!

Cheers to all.

Back from the never never

Nursed the poor old girl back into the Hunter Valley last night and set about all the unpacking.

Haven't done a final tally of the km's as yet but somewhere around the 15,000 mark on rough estimates in the six weeks.

Ended up going back through Victoria and the ACT just so we could tick off all the States and Territories on the mainland in the same trek.

Have added some more pics into the gallery of Kimberley pics for those interested.

Total carnage as follows:
1 x belt tensioner and belt
(Somewhere near Cape Leveque amongst all of the sand and dust)

1 x steel rim (car) and tyre
(Road to Mitchell Falls - entirely my fault as I was having too much fun belting around the corners dakar style and drifted the back end a touch wide on a bend and clouted a large rock)

1 x steel rim (camper) and tyre (see pic below)
(Still haven't seen the tyre and hope I don't see any more rims like this)

1 x rear passenger lower trim left somewhere in one of the rivers along the Gibb River Road
(body bloody LR plastic clips again!)

1 x Spare Wheel winder unit
(this is now our second unit to die from mud and dirt ingress)

All in all pretty minimal damage really considering the tracks we covered and how hard we belted through it all in the short timeframe.

Happy to pass on any info to those thinking of heading up that way.

It was once a steel rim - they just don't make 'em like they used to!

Interesting comparo test in this months 4WD action dispelling some of the myths about alloy rims which is interesting reading.

Will try and scan a copy and post it somewhere for forum members.

Am going to try and run another get together for everyone in the Hunter for September sometime with some wineries and great off-roading.

Assume you will be a starter if not otherwise committed. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

Later in September then yes it should not be a problem, we plan to get up to the Whitsundays at the end of August beginning of Sept for a break and make sure everything is ok with the house..

Might be worth pinging the forum members and see if any care to join, 2 months should be sufficient notice. Another Pommie Bar Steward down under
