What type of battery is in the key fob?........

The reason I ask is because I left my Sport with the local dealer for two weeks for warranty service whilst I was away on business.
When I returned the key fob was left in the sun on the dash board and had actually started to melt in the heat Shocked Surely this could also damage the battery inside the unit since we've all heard how careful one must be when disposing of energy cells these days?
I am going to complain to the dealer and will ask them for a new key fob to replace the one that looks like it's been cooked.

Oh dear!!

I'm afraid your key head is a sealed unit that contains a PCB and a rechargeable battery. Malaysia Boleh!

Hi Bobby...thanks for that.

So you are saying the only serviceable part is the battery then?

Sorry, no.
Key fob is a sealed unit and there's nothing serviceable in it.
The battery is rechargeable (it charges whilst you drive) and it's supposed to last about 14 years!! Shocked Malaysia Boleh!

Thanks Bobby...... I will point this out to the service chap here since I doubt very much if he knows such things!

At least it might stop them from melting other clients key fobs Rolling Eyes

By the way.... I was in Southern China last week but couldn't find the time to take that flight to KL for the job interview. It will have to wait untill I get another far east trip.

Hello streaky
It is possible to replace the battery. But you will also need to source a new fob casing..
I replaced my casing and changed the rechargable lithium battery at the same time. The battery requires soldering to the PCB but is fairly simple. The battery is only around 2 pound and and casing around 20.
If you need any more info, I will be happy to provide info
