How does the sat nav map update itself re.roadworks, with it being a dvd based system?

It dont !!! and thats the problem !!!

It also appears that the latest version 2010/2011 is no better either, still missing essential updates to new trunk roads and alike.
It has been muted elsewhere on here that it would be best to buy a TomTom instead, but I for one am not likely to be doing that. After all is said and done this is still a bloody good system and LR will have to get their act together at some stage and provide a regular update that actually makes sense. 2005 Rang Rover Supercharged

1. it uses TMC which is radio wave based for traffic etc. This is a flawed system as the traffic data is often stale.
2. the sat nav is truly, offencely awful. ============
2010 TDV8 HSE - ooo laa laaaaaaaaa
2007 TDV8 HSE - superb car and very reliable

2012 - dearly departed, sadly missed.. to return in late 2013 with a new TDV8!

All I know is that driving down the Crescent into Manchester(being a Take That Concert Taxi) Rolling Eyes I had roadworks icons on my screen that haven't been there before.

The only Sat Nav I've had that should come with a road map instead of instruction handbook. Whistle

it makes such stupid routing decisions - literally embarrassing! it took me off at junction 24 of a motorway only to put me back on 200 yards and one roundabout later (apparently that was to avoid traffic). And don't get me started on the "estimated time of arrival" nonsense.. literally a small child could have made the calculation better! Then such things as, I don't know.. speed camera warnings? in 2011? surely that is possible. When low fuel light comes on.. auto show the nearest petrol stations? make the touch screen better so that when you try to zoom out it doesn't re-centre the whole map instead?

To add balance - i have found our 2011 version quite good...as did i with earlier versions.

Yes sometimes it makes the odd, odd choice - but these actually have paid off.

Our TomTom was shocking. But the CoPilot on the Ipad is actually good.

But still the built in is fine for me - could be improved - but still good Mike

Laughing

mine doesn't (MY10) - it gives me a list of nearest petrol stations. Can you get yours shown as icons on the map? ============

yes they show as icons

All this is a setting thing as you can tell it not to tell you on low fuel where the stations are and you can further tell it (depending on zoom level) to show the icons. Mike
