Hi All,

The insurance company ( Churchill) are insisting on a tracker being fitted to my lovely 2005 RRS SC
Does anyone have any experience of purchasing these, have heard so many differing things about the various makes that its all become very confusing.

I am located in Margate, Kent does anyone know oif a local dealer/installer ???
Any good advice greatly received.

I was with Churchill when I had my Discovery and they insisted on a tracker as well. I told them to stuff it and took my business elsewhere and now insure with Santander, fully comp all whistles and bells Inc free breakdown cover and no claims protection.

It cost me £75 more than Churchill, but to monitor a tracker every year is about £130 plus and I didn't have to lay out £400 to have it supplied and fitted. 2017 Range Rover Sport Autobiography

Same problem with Privilege Insurance, they insisted on a tracker so I moved to Esure who don't require one

i would advise moving insurer. I have suffered both Tracker and CobraTrak and while their service is good (ringing immediatley when battery disconnected for example) they cost £130+ a year and fitting is a ball ache (and £300-400).

If you can't change insurer then both of these brands are good. Cobra just relaunched their product (April) with some neat online tracking tools. ============

for the same money you could get Return To Invoice insurance so that if the worst happened you would get back the exact price you originally paid for the car.

I would (and do) prefer this to potentially having my car found and returned to me after some bag has ragged the engine, kerbed the wheels and in the back seats (for fun) ============

Put it another way, if your RRS got stolen, would you want it back The tealeafs that steal these cars are fully tooled up and know where the trackers are installed on these motors so if they suspect a tracker device maybe fitted they will find it before they drive your motor away

I was offered the return to invoice insurance but was not sure that the salesman was on the level so did not purchase, maybe that would be the best option.
I take your point about these type of people and the possible use of blockers, but it still goes without saying that it's better to know where your car is than not.

I think on reflection, this time, I will stump for a cobra system installed AND have the back up of the return to invoice protection, then it really does not matter what happens.....

Im a fan of tracker and trackers in general - the good ones that use several different methods of alert are the way forward and not that easy to block.

That said - unless your insurance company was offering you a DISCOUNT then move away. I did the maths and regardless of my desire to have a tracker - it cost more to have a tracker installed and use the insurance company for insurance than to change insurance companies and do what i liked! Mike

One thing to look at before you go ahead - Is the tracker you intend installing recognised by the insurer, some aren't and as such you would waste your time/money installing one. Ask your insurer for a list of approved trackers before you commit.
