Replacing Black LR Badge on Steering Wheel

Don't ask how but I've got a dint in the badge on the steering wheel. It's a real depression that reflects the light and it starting to annoy me.

I went to the main dealer and they said that as it is on the airbag, the badge cannot be changed on it's own but requires a whole new airbag unit. The airbag unit is over £200!

I've seen these for sale on ebay and wondered if anyone had experience of swapping one out? I don't want to try getting the old one off to have the airbag go off in my face!

AFAIR it is just held in with 2 clips, you prise the old one off carefully with a screwdriver with a pad underneath to prevent any dints in the pad and then just glue the new one in with the glue provided. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

I've done it. It's a nice easy job, you need a thin tipped flat head screwdriver to force the old badge out. It's held on with four spade prongs/thingys. It took some prising to twist and get it off.

I used a dab of glue on the replacing black/silver badge as it didn't have the prongs. Looks great! Thumbs Up

I didn't... but if you want to be safe, then disconnect the battery if you are worried about the airbag!

Cheers,

Mark

Strange worked fine for me when I bought one.

What you want to do is get a "pincer" or terminal driver or something else small flat and blunt if you are not confident using a pincer and insert it at the top right corner before the curve of the oval ( the left side of the bend) and coax the badge hook out, then work your way round in clockwise direction on the other three hooks. This will release the badge, the replacement one will have no hooks and is secured using silicone sealant.
