New Apple Macs ! ?

Anyone got any feedback on the newer Apple Macs these days.

I have a really creaky old Performa 5200 that’s nearly 12 years old now & still going strong !! Unfortunately it’s not much use for anything any more, other than some drawings I do on Claris Draw.

However, it’ still going strong & has never let me down in all the years. In the same space of time I must have gone though 4 or 5 PC’s not to mention countless reformats & reloads of software. So now I feel I might look at going “Back to Mac” again. I always was & still am a Mac Man at heart. But like most everybody else, succumbed to the PC Plague.

How are the new machines ??

It disturbs me to see that the current machines are Intel based rather than Motorola.

What are the issues if any with the internet & or eMail ??

What if any are the major drawbacks these days of operating a Mac. I think one advantage is that it seems most viruses are aimed a Windows machines, so that would be one big plus. Am I correct in this or just delusional ??

I don’t need a lot of cross platform compatibility. My main work on the machine would be home based, so Internet, eMail, Word processing, Spreadsheets, that sort of thing is all I need.

Oh & of course iTunes & Digital Photography !

I guess my biggest Internet concern would be compatibility with airline booking sites, Ticketmaster, that sort of thing.

So any thoughts, suggestions, guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Cool

Rupert - I use Macs but not the new Intel ones. I have 5 linked, both wireless and ethernet. The mail and internet work fantastically better than my kid's 2 PC's which I constantly have problems with. Software, which was an issue is not so much now as most programmes are now available for the Mac too and if they arn't someone has written something to sort thngs out. Drop me a pm if you need any more info. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Cheers VA, I might just do that over the next few days, thanks.

Good to see there’s someone else who shares my enthusiasm for the “Superior Mac” Laughing

Go for a Linux PC instead. The hardware is much cheaper than a MAC and easier to upgrade. Most latest version of Linux include Firefox and OpenOffice, so there is no problems with internet or office compatability. You can even put a skin on Linux to make it look like WinXP if you want.
You can download Fedora Linux at http://www.redhat.com/fedora/ and install it on any old PC and give the PC a new lease of life. All free and slick, robust and reliable. Matt

Yeah I've read about that alright, must have a "looksee"
