key cutting

I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A NEW KEY FOB FROM THE OLD EBAY. THE FOB HAS ARRIVED AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION. I HAVE ALSO BOUGHT A NEW UNCUT BLADE TO REPLACE THE BLADE THAT IS ALREADY IN THE FOB. I HAVE SEEN POSTS AS TO HOW TO CHNAGE THE BLADE OVER, BUT WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS???????????????? CAN YOU GET THE BLADE CUT AT ANY REGULAR KEY CUTTERS OR DOES IT HAVE TO BE A SPECIAL PLACE OR MAIN DEALERS.
ANY IDEAS RRS 07

I was in lock shop during the week( needed new multi locking system for front door).
Looking around and saw many different key cutting machines asked if he could cut RRS key and was told it needed a laser cutting machine so normal lock shops cant.

Surely a new fob would have an uncut blade? (Or a blade cut to the car for which it had been ordered.)
If it's a second-hand fob, already paired to another car, I think you're on to a loser, as I've not heard of anyone getting such re-programmed to their vehicle. I've tried to do this with both IDS and AutoLogic; love to know if you succeed.

No bought a second hand gob and a new blank blade to replace the old one. Apparently you can get the fob reprogrammed to the rrs and get the new blade cut to match the old one. Will let you know when I get it done and if it works. RRS 07

I was of the same thought as DrLex, that once programmed the key can not be reprogrammed due to flash memory,
I bought a brand new key from my local Rangie specialist, £99+VAT. They ordered direct from landrover so no cutting needed and programmed it for free. Easy and no hastle, only takes 2 minutes to program, and probably cheaper than than one off ebay, then blade, cut and programmed.
Please do keep us updated if the key can be reprogrammed
Thumbs Up

all fobs can be reflashed it s only a chip inside and flashed with a new unique code to car thats why they do all together a few min apart so they all get flashed with the same code just need the right program
Thumbs Up

belive it or not key cutters like timpson are now programing most dealer key fobs

hence they said they will have the software for range rovers in three months time done for £ 20.00

so i say genuine key fob from the ebay for £ 10-30 then £ 20.00 not bad ? Thumbs Up

or dealer £ 45 Thumbs Up

I bought genuine fob from ebay for 12quid, cost me 3.50 for a new blank blade and 12quid to get blade cut at timpson but they could not reprogramme the key. so LR are going to have to do it.
so in total it has cost me 27.50, and what ever LR are going to charge to reprogramme the key. Its got to be cheaper than buying it direct from main dealer. I hope[/img] RRS 07

Let us know how it ends, but my guess is that no authorized dealer will be able to reflash that EEPROM chip inside your fob, since it was previously programmed for the immobilizer of a different RRS.
