The manual mentions Dual and DVDPlus discs as these were something which was being experimented with early in the last decade I believe (they must be as they are in the manual of my 2005 car and LandRover aren't the fastest to adopt new tech) - I think that they are mentioned to warn you about inserting them the correct way up, as they had DVD data on one side and CD/digital music on the other. The CD Operation section does quite clearly mention that Data CD's work. I have had my 2005 car for the last 2 years and never realised that I could use data CD's until I read this thread, so thank you, I now have a CD with 10 albums on converted from AAC in itunes to MP3 that I can listen to without having to max the volume on the aux in. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Nigel, you need to have the files as MP3, the car doesn't recognise AAC files. Happily it is easy enough to convert AAC to MP3 (even for files you have bought through the iTunes store - provided they have been about since 2008-9 and are DRM free) - in the iTunes preferences with the import cd option, set the program to import as MP3, now anything you import from CD will be in the correct format for the car, if you have bought an album from the iTunes store you just highlight the tracks, right click and select the 'create MP3 version option, et voila, the program creates the MP3 versions for you.

Assuming you have all the tracks you want you can either create a playlist within iTunes and then burn as a data disk to your blank CD-ROM, this will give you a disk with one folder and all your tracks inside. The car will only show you the folder number and the track number so this is not sooo helpful for navigating quickly to your favourite Barbara Steisand albums. Whistle

What I have done on my mac, and the process is the same on a windows PC, is create a 'burn folder' on the desktop, into that I have placed the albums I want in individual folders and then burnt the disc as a data disk. Result being that when the disk is inserted to the car it then tells me which folder is selected and which track is playing. There is no metadata shown, so unlike my wife's little 1 series which shows you the album/folder name and the track names, you just see folder numbers and track numbers. Not perfect, but at least it works and it means that the kids can play with my iphone in the back of the car whilst I listen to my music. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

DRM is Digital Rights Management (I think), it means that you can't copy it or change the format and the file is locked to your account.
