Advice on new car purchase - AM

Some of you may already know I have been dicking around on my new car purchase for a couple of months now.

I am going to be keeping my Z4 as a daily runaround, and have now pretty much decided on a White Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I have not decided on whether to go nearly new, which would be the 4.7 or a 2 year old model which would be the 4.3. About 20k separates the 2 in price....

Just want some thoughts from some of you who may know of others who have had them, re reliability, issues etc.

I know Misery and a few others have said to go for the Maserati instead, but I just prefer the look of the Aston.

Good news is that I will be getting a RRS in Sept..... Thumbs Up

I was in my local dealer one afternoon a week ago looking at a 2007 vantage v8 coupe being nosey with no intentions to buy at that point

salesman takes me inside for my details and whilst in there someone who just bought a white DBS called to say he couldnt make the AM VIP day on the following day - I was offered the opportunity

12 hours later I was at Millbrook in the Aston Martin suite testing the range of new cars

DBS on the mile straight , 0 to 160 mph and back to 0
Vanquish round the alpine route where casino royale was filmed
Cygnet round the city route
Rapide round the bowl at 130mph
V8 vantage manual around the alpine route
v8 vantage s sportshift roadster passenger lap around a race course
v8 vantage s sportshift coupe round the driving area

only one I never had the pleasure of was the v12 vantage

from that I was hooked but it made me decide exactly what I wanted

Yesterday I picked up my 2008 Vantage roadster manual (4.3) and I love it

A customer of ours had a V8 and had let's say a love hate relationship with it Whistle

Being located where we are the nearest dealer is a good 100 miles away so he ended up selling it quite quicky due to the problems he was having and the turn around time and hassle with AM Wilmslow.

This is why we went for the DB9 and it is superb! Ours is the 2009MY but I know some 2006MY cars can be had for circa £50k now and IMHO is a much better car an the V8 Smile

Had the DB9 for just over 2 years and absolutely loved it. Did consider a V8 but I knew I would always have wished I'd gone for the DB9, (which I did in the end).
Very reliable as an everyday user ..... but I know that's not everybodies experience with AMs.
Whichever, you go for Nick, I hope you enjoy.

DONT GO FOR ONE IN WHITE!

It's sin to have any AM in white. Some form of grey is the only color IMO.

I also own a V8 Vantage bought it 2.5 years ago after 16 years of 911 week end toys. Suggest you look at http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h...20-%20AMV8

There is a load of info here, best advice is go with best your money will get. Once bought you'll drive around with a huge grin, make sure fuse 22 is removed which keeps the exhaust baffles open Twisted Evil

Always take mine to an indie for serving as it's 2006 4.3, not sure where you are but it's Derby Motor Services run by Rick, he is always a good source of info. I know of lots of people who use them as a daily driver.

Thanks for the Info guys....Dealer was saying very few 07 Sportshift Roadsters around as they were all launch cars....if i go for an 07 at about 55, will spend 5k on the clear rear lenses and new shadow line wheels, which is money well spent to make an older car look a little different in my eyes...

I just think white ones look really good with clear rear lenses......
