is it a 4.2 or 5ltr ?

Looking at trading in the wife's Freelander 2 on a Range Rover Sport through an established car trader.

The seller has listed it as a 4.2, however, when I go to get an insurance quote it comes up as a 5ltr and when I did a dummy listing through ebay, it also said it was a 5ltr ?

The car was apparently used in Switzerland 4 months a year and although an 06 car was first registered in the UK in July 2009.

The seller says it hasn't had an engine change and is definitely a 4.2, is this a case of the DVLA miss registering it when it was imported ? It's a right hand drive model and on UK plates.

Any advice gratefully received !

Cheers

CJ

I assume we are talking S/C

If it was an 06 car its a 4.2 V8 - i would suggest the reregisteration is causing the problem Mike

Just be very careful with this we discussed it recently it could be classified as an import with all the associated issues such as insurance and resale value MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Thanks Chris - that's helpful. You would have a clue where the import thread was would you ? I've done a search but not really come up with anything that looks appropriate.

Thanks

CJ

Jonny,no unfortunately but I bought an import knowingly just to save the VAT ended up with what would have listed at £46k for £36k at 6 months old with about 6K miles on it BUT when it came to trading it in nobody would touch it with a bargepole and I got about £5K for it against another the same make.
Also you need to check that you can get it insured and the position regarding any warranty issues.
All of this is only applicable if it has got "import" on the log book so make sure you actually see it before you commit. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.
