I've been told that the Freelander is very good offroad by the instructors on my LRE 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Yep - I've been on two LREs in Freelanders. Very capable. Let's not forget that it's a LR... it may not be the most comfy or well spec'd and it may not be the most enthralling on-road drive in the world but offroad it will still kick most "pretend" 4x4s (RAV4s etc) into a cocked hat.

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Arctic Frost

I took my TD4 Freelander off roading in the Dalby Forest, Yorkshire last Whitsun. Had a brilliant day, apart from bending my side steps and the son absolutely loved it.

There was only one part of the course that I couldn't complete and that was because I started to bottom out in the deep ruts down one particularly narrow forest path. I had a Rav 4 or some other jap thing following me for part of the course but he soon gave up after ripping the back box off his exhaust system.

I have done the half day introductory course and Level One course at Eastnor Castle, covering all Land Rover models except the RRS. But none of that compares with the thrill of driving your own vehicle off road.

Don't get me wrong gents, don't doubt the car for a second and I also had the bog standard base car. It just feels out of date compared with the D3 / RRS as you would expect. V. noisy.....tyres, engine and interior rattles etc. Once it has had the 'new millenium' treatment I am sure it will be a great car........ Currently: Carbon Black 535d

Cheers guys - car is a truly excellent piece of kit.....it positively eats miles with ease....

Been the busiest I have been in my working life over the last few month....been truly manic - can't complain though, tis all money in the bank after all!

Fingers crossed but so far all I have is a rattle from the steering wheel and some surface rattles from around the switch gear on the transmission tunnel. Happy for the dealer to sort the wheel - should be a straight swap for a new one - not so sure about the trans. tunnel though, my experience is that once bits get taken apart then you end up with more rattles than when you started! I may just have 20 minutes of fun with some Silicon spray

Also got it properly stuck when in France; I had 120 acres of private farm and woodland to play in!!!!

Oops - at least you didn't have to be rescued by a D3. Not that that situation ever arises anyway Wink

ST - car looks great and like the reg no. Twisted Evil

I still get noises from the dash that are like the odd cracking noise, not quite a creak. I'm also nervous of letting the dealer take any of it apart as that can cause all sorts of additional problems.

Did this with my Golf V5 a few years back and it was never the same again! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad
