New tyre gubbed!!

Bought two new goodyear excellence last week, and one had developed a golf ball sized growth on the sidewall! I am presuming the sidewall has given way due to a fault in the tyre, anyone managed to claim a tyre off a supplier/manufacturer? The lad at national where I bought them says he has to send it back to Goodyear for testing

Cheers

Had it happen years ago....

But it is not your problem..... It is National's. They should replace straight away no quibbling....

If not just mention Trading standards.....

Have a feeling they will try and wriggle out of it citing poor road surface!! They have only done 300 miles! MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged Wink ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps!

Codfather - worth knowing the following:

Who do I claim a refund, repair or replacement from?

Your contract is with the trader and not the manufacturer and you should always go back to them to make a claim under the Sale of Goods Act. However if you have paid for goods using a credit agreement like a Hire Purchase Agreement then your rights are different and you should call Consumer Direct for further advice.

If you have paid over £100 for your goods via credit card you can hold both the trader and the credit card company liable for any breach of contract under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. The credit card is jointly and severable liable which means that you don’t have to go to the trader first to make your claim, however in practical terms speaking to the trader may be the quickest way to get your problem resolved. To write a letter to your credit card company claiming a refund for faulty goods click here for a template. Thumbs Up

I paid £182 by company cheque, so will need to go down the merchantable quality route with national.

Thanks for advice

Unlucky Codfather Sad

I have a company credit card now rather than use cheques and this way you still get the protection even if you are buying for the business. Thumbs Up 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

got tyre changed today, there is no mark or split on the outside, but inside there is a spilt about 20mm long running across the strengthening beads - who knows what has caused it, it could have been a pothole, but i havent felt a thing (air suspension is great isnt it!)
Nationals policy is return it to goodyear who will write to me direct with thieir findings.
in hindsight i would have been cheaper to buy new continentals and suffer the poor wear!! Big Cry
cheers

I don't think I have ever taken out an extended warranty or gap insurance , I have always taken the chance that nothing will go wrong!! This is probably the first time I have had a tyre problem in the last 15 years, so would I have been better buying tyre insurance?? I'll let you know when it happens again! Wink And then I will be changing to 19" and MTRs

Gubbed!

I know how yo feel mate...

Had huge problems twice in last 4 months with 20" Pirellis.

Thou' I changed the front tyres, before all that bad weather in Dec. Which paid dividends at time.

But tyre walls are poor again, now; after a Service last week.

Probably need a good look to. But I don't have the time - just keep to 80 on the motoeway, at moment.

It is all a pain. But at least we have Cars. 95% of the World, do not. Worth Remembering...

Kam's tyre insurance is no more! I think too many people abused the set up. If anyone comes across a policy let me know. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Funny thing happened to me a few years ago...

Driving down the A30 towards Exeter 980mph ish0 and I get a blow out. Nothing strange there until I looked at the tyre....

2 holes the same size as a 5p piece on each side of the tyre. Not directly opposite but slightly off....

A bit as if someone had shot a .22 through it. Shocked

Forgot to do anything about it as I thought, 'No, couldn't be that.....

Not really relevant but just remembered it......

Were you trying to land a tornado?? Laughing

Strange things can happen with tyres, my mate didn't notice a fist sized rock in the road in his disco, tyre burst immediately and the rock jammed itself in the tyre!
Cheers

Years ago I had a V8 Disco1 that I had new tyres fitted to.............. a few days later I was driving through the centre of Glasgow and heard a bang and though "Oh some poor sod has got a puncture" When the traffic lights changed I found out who it was who got the puncture Embarassed Embarassed Called out the AA to change the wheel and as the guy took the wheel off the hub he called me over to have a look as there was something heavy inside the tyre................ when he levered the tyre off the rim there was a very buckled open ended spanner marked "Snap-On Tools" inside the tyre. The only way it could have got there must have been when the dealership fitted the new tyres for me............. but when I phoned and asked the service manager if he was missing any tools from the workshop he reckoned he wasn't missing any.............. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
