Credit Card Fraud......You Couldn't Make It Up

Received a notice of delivery letter from John Lewis store London , with my address on but not my name.

So we popped it back in the post writing " this person not at this address " , expecting it to get delivered to the return address on the rear.

4 days later it came back through our door again Neutral ..., so this time I opened it.

Inside there is a delivery advice note from John Lewis London stating the goods listed will be delivered on a certain date , the delivery address is in Fulham and the Master card used is listed as Mr X at my address in the West Mids Shocked .

So I calls J L to tell them that there is no Mr X at our address and that we don't have a master card so it could be a fraudulent transaction.

After a few more calls to me from their Customer Services & Fraud Dept they put a stop on Mr X's shopping account and eventually after 2 days track down that the issuing bank is Natwest.

I am then advised to call Natwest and report the whole episode to their fraud team so that they are aware of the fraudulent use of a card registered to my address.

So this morning I call Natwest Master Card and eventually navigating my way through their " push 1 for ..... Push 2 for.....Telephone system " I eventually talk to a human being Very Happy .

Who asks me for my 16 digit number on the card.....I say I dont have a card.....it's being used by Mr X who doesn't live at my address....she replies ,

" in that case sir I cannot put a stop on the card because your name isn't on it Exclamation

Slightly stunned at this remark I say WHAT ?. She goes on

" when you get the credit card bill in the post in 3 weeks time write on it NO ONE OF THIS NAME AT THIS ADDRESS and return it to us , we will then suspend the card for further use.

So i ask , does that mean that Mr X can still carry on using the fraudulent card for another 3 weeks , your having a laugh
, she doesn't find this funny but basically .....yes ...that's exactly what it means.

I puts the phone down flabbergasted at what I had just been told , then the wife phones me and says " you'll never guess what ? ... 2 boxes have now arrived at my neighbours house with our address on while she was out in the name of Mr X from John Lewis London Big Cry "

So this Mr X who has a credit card in his name but my address , can go on spending thousands on god knows what until I receive the statement in April and return it to them Rolling Eyes Censored

.......Until the credit card bill lands on your doorstep. You, of course, won't pay it.

Nat West will then take legal action to recover property to the value of....?, probably from your house. In the meantime, your credit history is trashed based on someone "living" at your address and not paying the credit card bill.

I would be writing to Nat West immediately and consulting my lawyer. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

I had exactly this scenario several years ago,I was staying away from home with my wife looking after my friends kennels, popped in at home to a pile of bills from O2 and House of Fraser for several phones and a camcorder, they initially tried to blame my daughter for using my card whilst I was away.
I tried ringing them both and explained the situation but neither of them would talk to me because I wasn't the one suffering the loss as it wasn't my card just my address after a lot of pressure they finally agreed to give me the details of the card which was a Barclays switch card.
I rang Barclays and explained the situation and again they at first refused to discuss it as it wasn't my card that was being used ,after a lot of toing and froing between all the parties I found they had used a switch card with my name but belonged to a woman, eventually I found out that they had used a Council tax bill to prove where they lived and it was a Sheffield Council bill ,I pay my rates to Derbyshire Dales but have a Sheffield postcode ,only when I sent them over a copy of my council tax bill did they agree that it wasn't anything to do with me.I then registered with an agency who called me by phone any time any credit or contacts were taken out in my name9can't remember who it was now).
so yes please don't let it lie, there is a serious risk that you may have your credit file destroyed by this. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

A few years back i had my wallet and passport stolen, registered with CIFAS immediately and they create an account that puts a flag on all applications for credit against your name and address, if it is you for example in a store the sales person will pass you the phone and you have to qualify via pre determind security questions that you are who you say you are, can be a bit of a pain at times but at least you know you are protected.

Nothing surprises me in these days of useless call centres, where staff read off a script and couldn't think their way out of a revolving door if their life depended on it!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

That's the one, I would recommend everyone registers to stop the lowlife screwing up your credit score ,I'm still in dispute with Experian about a linked address in London with somebody using my home address for what looks like an O2 phone contract from years ago. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Another one (no card involved, just nice official documents) :

Some years ago my wife had a terrible crash because of a car running a red light at full speed.
Hopefully no one was hurt but her car was destroyed.
She calls me. I run to the crash site, nearby our house.
Here comes the wrecker. Then another one. The 2 wreckers have a fight to whom will get the car to tow. Rolling with laughter
Wrecker 1 wins the fight in front of my wife aghast and my mumbling self not so amused. Embarassed
I sign some kind of "relief" paper and there goes the wreckage.
Later that day I called them at their garage and they tell me I'll receive some official papers to sign
for insurance blah-blah.
I receive all the papers, sign it and we're done with it.
For us, the car was gone to some landfill. Thumbs Up
Not so.
Half a year later, we receive a not so kind letter from some obscure not so thrilled police officer warning us we should present ourselves for speeding in… our late wreckage.
It turned out that :
- the wreckage had been repaired
- sold to some lowlife
- lowlife had been catched with our plates at 125 mph on the Seine river banks late at night.
