EGR Valve! Can you help??

Hello,

Just bought an 08 RRSport 2.7TDV6 S with 29000 miles on. The engine management light is on and when the diagnostics was plugged in it said that there was a fault with both EGR valves.

Can these be cleaned and put back on or do you have to replace them?

Also, if you have to replace them does anyone know if you can get aftermarket ones or are they main dealer part only?

Any help or advice greatly received.

Thanks!

Guy

have you got any LR warranty left on it?

If so..get it to the dealer asap Thumbs Up

As far as I can remember, the EGR's are genuine LR only and I've not heard of people refurbing them..just straight swap old for new... not cheap.. RRS gone

Hi Guy, I had the same problem with my 2007 Tdv6 S, just one EGR, tried to clean it but it didn't work, part has to come from Landrover circa £130.00 plus VAT, plus fitting. You can't blank 2007 onwards as the engine light won't go out. Rolling Eyes

Just out of warranty unfortunately and it also missed a service in 2009 so they wont do the work for nothing.

Do you know what an EGR valve actually does?

Do you know how much they charged for fitting?

Thanks!

Guy

They always go wrong - some people swear on using premium grade diesel to help prevent failure but there's no conclusive proof. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Yes it's just a butterfly valve with a motor that draws exhaust air into the intake when you take your foot off the gas... then closes again when you throttle up and need cool clean air..

They can stick open..meaning warm exhaust gasses being used all the time..resulting in poor performance.. RRS gone

That sounds very cheap... Use this garage!

I've heard £600+ for a main dealer to do one valve... RRS gone

Ive noticed that the car does seem to be a bit more 'Rattley' than the others ive had. Could this be why?

Can using the vehicle whilst having this fault lead to other problems or am i ok to drive around with it on for a while?

my sport had transmission fault, suspension on deck park brake fault and wouldnt rev or drive.
All this was down to 1 egr valve. Steve Hill Landrover sorted it

was discussing some typical faults with a land rover mechanic today and he tells me the new 2010 onwards 3 litre RRS has the intercooler fitted after the EGR valve line as opposed to having the intercooler fitted before the EGR valve on the pre 2010 cars.
the effect?
as the return gas is no longer cooled before it enters the EGR valve, it does not build up as much gunk in the valve.
all in all the pre-2010 EGR layout seems to be a pretty F*#Ked up design.

Thanks for all the help lads. Looks like im going to have to bite the bullet and get some bought.

I have a pal who has 2 new RR Sport EGR valves which were bought for a 2006 model. Does anyone know if they would be ok to go on my 2008 S model? Im guessing that they should be the same?

Also if these are fitted by a non LR dealer will the engine management light automatically go out or will i have to take it to them to tknock it off?

Guy

They may not be the right ones as 2007 onwards was a different emissions standard, regarding the light it will more than likely have to be reset by someone with a specialist computer. Your best bet would be a good independant Land Rover garage.

I've just had the AA out to check my engine check light, the codes are P0489 and P0490 egr low and egr high. I take it the egr valve will have to be replaced Sad 2007 RRS V6 2.7 SE
